DAVE MELTZER OF YAHOO SPORTS-->> Attending a major boxing event and a UFC event just a few weeks apart at the same MGM Grand Garden Arena CERTAINLY DOES NOT support the NOTION that boxing fans will abandon the sport in favor of MMA.
MMA major events, like the Brock Lesnar-Randy Couture match Nov. 15 in the same venue, draws predominately white men, with a decent smattering of women, mostly between the ages of 20-35, and very few minorities.
Saturday night’s show drew a decidedly older crowd, and for the most part, the younger fans in the crowd were nationalistic, with Latinos supporting De La Hoya and Filipinos backing Pacquiao.
Boxing’s advantages are based on its longevity as a major sport, with a media contingent that dwarfs even the biggest UFC event, and a list of celebrities that seemed to take forever to run down. UFC major events have some well-known celebrities but nothing comparable.
And interestingly, one not mentioned by Michael Buffer but shown earlier in the night on the screen making a prediction (for De La Hoya), was former UFC star Tito Ortiz. Ortiz was not only recognized instantly but booed heavily, almost like he was an intruder.
“MMA doesn’t affect the popularity of boxing,” said Greenburg. “They are two entirely different sports. It would be like saying basketball affects the popularity of baseball.”

FIVE MILLION FOR LESNAR ?? HAHHAHA KEEP DREAMING DUDE...
UFC PAYS OUT PEANUTS COMPARED TO BOXING..The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today released the official fighter purses for those who competed at UFC 100 this past Saturday night (July 11) from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
Two current champions — Brock Lesnar and Georges St. Pierre — were the big winners of the night, taking home an event-leading $400,000 apiece. Both fighters experienced similar results inside the Octagon — Lesnar was rewarded for pounding out Frank Mir in two rounds, while “Rush” went home a little richer after a five-round clinic on challenger Thiago Alves.
Dan “Hollywood” Henderson pocketed a cool $250,000 for his bone-crunching performance, which also earned him an extra $100,000 for “Knockout of the Night.”
Here is the complete list of UFC 100 payouts:
Brock Lesnar — $400,000 (No win bonus)
Frank Mir — $45,000
Lesnar defeated Mir via technical knockout (strikes) in round two
Georges St. Pierre — $400,000 ($200,000 to show, $200,000 to win)
Thiago Alves — $60,000
St. Pierre defeated Alves via unanimous decision

Michael Bisping — $150,000

Yoshihiro Akiyama — $60,000 ($40,000 to show, $20,000 to win)
Alan Belcher — $19,000

TJ Grant — $5,000

Tom Lawlor — $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win)
CB Dolloway — $14,000
Lawlor defeated Dolloway via submission (guillotine choke) in round one
Shannon Gugerty — $10,000 ($5,000 to show, $5,000 to win)
Matt Grice — $7,000
Gugerty defeated Grice via submission (guillotine choke) in round one
Jon Fitch — $90,000 ($45,000 to show, $45,000 to win)
Paulo Thiago — $8,000

Keep in mind the salaries listed above do not include fight bonuses, sponsorships, percentages and other unofficial payments. It also does not include deductions for expenses such as insurance, taxes, etc.
For example, the UFC often hands out extra cash for “Fight of the Night,” “Knockout of the Night” and “Submission of the Night.” To check out these figures for UFC 100 go here.
The total base fighter payroll for the blockbuster pay-per-view (PPV) event, which attracted an unofficial crowd of nearly 11,000 attendees and the second-highest gate in UFC history with $5.1 million, was $1,790,000.
