Steve's Bio

I'm an avid Philadelphia sports fan who's always had an interest in writing. I figured this was a good place to start... I'm 3 years out of college and still barely making ends meet, but we all know that money isn't crucial to happiness. Watching sports is.

I am afflicted with a healthy addiction to hockey. The Flyers come first, but overall I am a hockey fan. If there's a game on, I'll try to catch it. If there's a game in the area, I'll try to go see it. This past season I went to 20 AHL games in three different cities, as well as two Flyers games (they're too expensive to afford more).

Baseball comes a close second to hockey. I also enjoy football, but the off season is waaaaaaaay too long. NASCAR used to be good, but now it is watered down boring garbage, and yet I still watch it like an idiot. Occasionally I'll watch basketball, but I still can't sit and watch a whole game without getting a little bored. March Madness is of course the exception.

My only real regret is that organized Baseketball hasn't caught on...yet.

I share a birthday with Tiger Woods, Lebron James, Ben Johnson, Sandy Koufax, and unfortunately Rob Scuderi and Kerri Collins.

As a Philadelphia fan, I have experienced my share of heartbreak. But even in losing, I still know my team is better than yours, and I will defend myself accordingly. Don't bother trying to tell me a new joke about my team's shortcomings, because I guarantee you I've heard them all already, and have a pre-packaged a witty comeback waiting for you.

Until recently I had never known the joy of a major four professional sports championship in my 25 years of existence. That changed on October 29th, 2008. Thank you, Phillies!

I have no formal training in journalism or broadcasting or anything like that. I work in television, but on the technical side, not on the air. That doesn't matter, though, because there are plenty of credibly credentialed writers out there that churn out nothing but trash, and just the same there are plenty of amateurs that can make the pros look silly.

My passion fuels my writing, and as a result my biases will almost always show through. I also admittedly let my emotions get the best of me, and I will probably at one point say something you think is offensive. My apologies in advance. I think raw emotion is what a site like this should be all about. If you can't put your own personal stamp on an article, it's not really yours. I'm not real big on research either. If I wanted to do that, I'd go back to school.

  3. Dang, bro—wish I could get there! Funny about Sharks and ice, 'cause it seems THESE Sharks can't stand it when it gets warm since they die every May! But in the regular season, you have no chance!

I am less excited about hockey than I am about football, being a Packers fan with all the promise of the Green & Gold this year. I probably won't concentrate as much on hockey until that's done, and even then I will be wary of the Sharks breakin' my heart again.

In the meantime, since y'all were dirty BEFORE you added the game's biggest (and most talented) thug, I have all the more reason to root against you!

  4. I'm back on hockey!
