Sergey's Bio

It's a hockey night, in Pittsburgh!

Alongside Sergei Miledin, I write for a hockey website, www.fromrussiawithglove.com, which focuses on the Russian takeover of the NHL. Also, if you have an interest in that other league, the KHL, be sure to check us out.

Born in St. Petersburg, Russia; Currently reside in Pittsburgh, PA.
I am the Zenit St. Petersburg Community Leader.

It's pronounced "Zee-koff".

I was a 4-year starter on my high school varsity tennis team, and I also played RW for our club hockey team. I've had 5 career hat tricks and I scored 7 points in a game (4G, 3A) on 1/20/07. I use the same stick as Pavel Datsyuk for those wondering.

"Play without fear. And I'll meet you at center ice." - Mario Lemieux

"I'll agree to fight Tyson, if they'll allow to use tackles" -Anatoliy Tymoschuk

"Ehhh, almost basketball, but I can't score 90, just four, sorry" -Andrei Arshavin

  1. I saw that amazing nearly impossible goal from Dzagoev, beauty, during the half time show. Didn't see the pass for Berezutsky. Will download the highlights later.

As for Rubin Vs Barca, do you think they can beat them again? The conditions certainly will help Rubin, -7C! How do you live like that? The temperature drops to a minimum of 9C here in my city, and that too in the night!

  2. Sup mate ?

    How've you been?

Any udpates on Russian league ?

Why exactly was Ramos sacked by CSKA ?

  3. Is Craig Anderson really all that he's cracked up to be? Find out in my latest article and please feel free to leave feedback!

    Thanks,
    Patrick

  4. And about your question regarding Danny.

Yes, Barcelona are planning to get him as well as Robinho or Luis Suarez. But nothing is sure for now. Henry is most likely to be sold off ! Robinho or Luis Suarez will be the new

The thing is the current Barcelona roster has only 19 players and the rest are from the youth team and lack experience. This season will be extremely taxing the Barca players because they still have got the World Club Championship to be played. Already there were signs of fatigue after a tiring last season, so the basic thing is to increase the squad strength!

Real Madrid has 25 players in it's roster btw !

Anyhow, it's just a loan deal and I think he will be back in Zenit once it's over!

  5. Rubin totally deserved to win the game.

They at least had the courage to attack against Barcelona unlike Inter Milan and Dynamo Kiev who were pathetic. They had the balls to do it , they got 2 goals.

Winning Barcelona at Nou Camp is an amazing feat ! Probably the greatest victory ever for Kazan !

Rubin and Barcelona should hopefully go through from this group!

  6. Yeah, well we'll see how the US can do when the pressure is on. So far, they've choked twice this year.

I heard about that. What puzzled me was that Boudreau talked about it like it was the coolest thing in the world and he called it a "Capitals original." It may not still be there, but the Caps have a montage for winning the Southeast last season. Last I checked, that wasn't much of an accomplishment when you look at the quality of teams in the division. Honestly, I think the Atlantic has consistently been a solid and maybe most competitive division in the NHL.

Haha that's a great story about Caps in the Burgh. Not sure why they bother going there. Maybe they want to know what a real arena feels like?

Whoever made that deserves an award.

  7. Part 2 of a 'Rafael Nadal' series.

Hope u can give it a read when time permits.

  8. You're right about the caliber of players on the team. Altidore for me is too lazy to be a striker and watching them play just frustrates me. Their defense is not very good and the US is very lucky to have beaten Honduras.

Oh gosh, I did that. I don't think most Caps fans know who Peter Bondra, Adam Oates or Olaf Kolzig are. My view of Caps fans really changed after going to that game. My time at the booth was nothing short of miserable, but that could have been because I was sporting #87 on my back. Sid so happened to score the first goal and the SO winner that game so they were especially bitter.

    And I LOVED it.

  9. That's interesting that you say Bradley might not be the man to do the job. I have definitely heard some analysts say that he might just be the man to win it, but who knows. Anything can happen after that miraculous win against Spain.

Haha it certainly would be better especially since I wouldn't have to listen to that obnoxious goal horn, if you can call it that.

  10. As far as Russian football is concerned - it is clearly on the rise. But the Russian clubs need to reduce the dependency on their owners and increase the revenue streams from ticket sales, merchandising and TV rights. The planned new stadiums will bring the Russian league forward.

  11. Sorry for my belated response. Somehow the "latest activities" window in my profile doesn`t seem to work and subsequently it sometimes takes a little bit longer until I recognise any comments etc...

I was nervous before the match in Moscow. As I have written you before, I preferred Andreas Beck as a right back. He is not the finished product yet and has some weaknesses in his defensive play, but at least he has pace. The red card for Boateng was justified and the challenge of his "substitute" Friedrich a clear penalty. So we were very lucky to win that match. I would also say that the challenge of Ballack on Arshavin could have been a penalty although I regard it as a 50:50 situation. Russia dominated in the 2nd half but they seemed to lack a bit of precision at the finish.

Yes, Adler is very strong. And Neuer is on the same level. As far as goalkeepers, midfielders and strikers are concerned, I am very happy about the current squad and its prospects. Our defense, however, needs to be strengthened. There are some talents around, but it remains to be seen whether they will make it to South Africa.

I wouldn`t read too much into FIFA ranks. I don`t know exactly how they work, but I know very well how the UEFA coefficient (which determines the number of CL spots a league receives) works - and it is very complicated. So I don`t want to spend any time on the FIFA rankings - it`s probably not worth the effort. But I do know e.g. that Germany lost some ground three years ago because we hosted the World Cup. Friendlies don`t give you many points and if you are automatically qualified for a tournament you can`t collect many points...

    See you again next summer!

  12. Thank you for the kind words, Sergey.

Soccer will always be my first love and I will never stop loving the game. It just gets difficult watching professional women make mistakes I saw in high school. I guess I should stick to the men, huh? It looks like they can make a nice run in the World Cup.

I'm sometimes sorry I'm stuck in DC, but I love going to games at the Verizon Center and seeing black and gold populate the place.

  13. Hi There,

Take a look at my latest article on Roberto Luongo's captaincy whenever you get a spare moment, I'd really appreciate it and please feel free to drop a comment.

    Thanks,
