Dieter's Bio

Dieter Kurtenbach is a journalism major at the University of Missouri and the host of The Screwballs on KCOU-Columbia. Dieter was recognized by the Missouri Press Association last year for his Mizzou Football feature articles. He spends his time as a Jermaniac, a drunk Gary Pinkel and a man searching for a mortal enemy after the passing of William Wadsworth Wirtz. He is also a life columnist for the Columbia paper The Maneater. That fact really should frighten you.

The Short List What Dieter thinks about sport's most pressing questions

  • Favorite Athletes

Ed Hochuli, Jermaine Dye, Bobby Hull, Frank Thomas, Kyle Orton, Eric Desjardins, Jonathan Toews, Ross Gload, Bobby Jenks, Xabi Alonso, a player named Jordan.

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Chicago White Sox, Chicago Blackhawks, Liverpool FC, Missouri Tigers, Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, Chicago Bulls,

  • All Time Sports Moment

Podsednik's walk off home run, game two, 2005 World Series.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

I was lucky enough as a youngster to see Jordan hit a game winner against the Charlotte Hornets and their flashy teal pinstripes, live in person.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

200 Points in a season, NHL. That said, Gretzky would have had 250+ in the modern day NHL.

  • Ruth or Mays?

A and 1. Incomparable, both have legit claim to be the greatest ever. If I had to start a team w/ both in their prime, I would take Mays.

  • Unitas or Montana?

Unitas. Is this even an argument?

  • Pele or Maradona?

Maradona, I'm a sucker of post career obesity.

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

I live in the the epicenter of the roughest, toughest conference in sport, the Big XII. Therefore I will say the Pac 10.

  7. Hey Dieter,

Noticed that you commented on my James Wisniewski article and called it false and that James will return during the season. I also state he will be back during the 08/09 season. Just thought you should know.

  8. Ah, I know...kids these days. I'll just shoot you a facebook message.

  9. Sweet. What's your e-mail? I'll probably send out four or five questions after the game Sunday night. If you can get your responses back to me sometime Monday afternoon or evening, I can get the article up sometime around the home opener.

  10. Hey Dieter, what's up?

I'm trying to get some Sox fans together here on BR to do a little roundtable after the Detroit series, and I'd love for you to be a part of it. Shoot me a message back if you're interested and I'll let you know the details.

    M-I-Z...
