It was a warmer-than-average Christmas morning when 12-year-old Neil Helsper received his first golf club. He walked out to his parents’ yard, set a ball on the ground and promptly sliced a 7-iron right into his neighbor’s siding. He immediately ran inside like a scared little girl, but that shot started an obsession with golf that’s been going strong ever since.
Neil’s passion for the game has taken him from that backyard to the high school golf team, a cart-boy job and now a simmering urge to play as often as possible.
When he’s not devouring golf magazines and books (metaphorically), you can find Neil at home in downtown Chicago devouring cheeseburgers (literally) and bothering his wife with his insistence on watching every hour of PGA Tour coverage.
Neil writes regularly on his blog at http://www.NeilHelsper.com.
