Matt's Bio

Originally from Miramichi, NB Canada I moved to the Pittsburgh area in 2000 to pursue my career in software development. A life long Calgary Flames fan I was not expecting to fall for the Penguins, but I did. I guess watching one of the greatest players of all time will do that to you.. Even though Mario was past his prime he was still a joy to watch... And then, they signed Malkin & Crosby... I was now a full fledged Pens fan! I recently began my own video blog on the Pittsburgh Penguins called "Pens N'at" available at http://mattiej.com.

The Short List What Matt thinks about sport's most pressing questions

  • Favorite Athletes

    Sidney Crosby, Hines Ward

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Calgary Flames

  • Favorite Coaches

Don Cherry, Bill Cowher, Glenn Sather, Scotty Bowman, Terry Crisp

  • All Time Sports Moment

Watching the Flames win the Cup in '89

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

When my dad came down and we watched Sid/Mario play together

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

    # of Cups won by a franchise in a single century (Montreal Canadiens)

  • Ruth or Mays?

Tough one, they were both great in their day..

  • Unitas or Montana?

A recent fan to football. I did like Montana and the 9er's in the 80s

  • Jordan or Russell?

Jordan, he changed the game whereas Russell simply dominated the game that was being played

  • Gretzky or Orr?

Gretzky.. You can't go on what "might've been".. Orr's career cut short by injury unfortunately

  • Pele or Maradona?

Not a big soccer guy, Pele wasn't as "showy" as Maradona and I like the "quiet", but deadly kinda player

  • Federer or Sampras?

Again, not a big tennis guy... I think Federer is more dominant in his time, however, I don't think the players are quite as talented nowadays

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger will undoubtedly break Nicklaus' major record barring any career-ending injuries

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Have NEVER watched a Nascar race

  • Schumacher or Senna?

Have NEVER watched a Formula-one race

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

I'm a Big East kinda guy since I root for the Pitt Panthers.. The Big East is dominant in men's basketball!!

  1. Why the 2005 Steelers are my all time favorite team, and always will be!

I would love if you could take a few minutes and read, comment if you would like to.

    Thanks,
    Nick

  2. yeah that would be great. you would have much more fun in your show talking about a win. but I think sid and geno might step up and help the pens to get out of this and more important to reach the playoffs.
but i jope not the 8th rank, because so they have to play against boston. I would prefer the caps.
    GO SID and PENS !!
