Kate's Bio

Kate Yanchulis is a freshman at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park. She lives and breathes sports, and can often be found reading the Washington Post Sports section or yelling at her television screen. When she is not watching the Washington Redskins and the Maryland Terrapins fail to live up to their potential, she writes for the sports section of the Diamondback.

The Short List facts and information about Kate Yanchulis

Favorite Athletes

Old school: Michael Jordan, John Riggins, Cal Ripken Jr. Current: Chris Cooley, Clinton Portis, Chad Cordero, Ryan Zimmerman, Juan Dixon, Santana Moss, Greivis Vasquez, Gilbert Arenas

Favorite Sports Teams

Washington Redskins, Maryland Terrapins (football, basketball, wrestling... you name it), Washington Nationals, Washington Wizards

All Time Sports Moment

I wasn't alive yet, but I'll still go with the "Riggins run" that got the Redskins a victory in Super Bowl XVII.

Most Memorable Game Attended

Washington Wizards v. Chicago Bulls, 2005 playoffs game 6. They had started the series down 2-0, but won the series with Gilbert Arenas' "dagger" to seal the deal in the final seconds.

Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Cal Ripken's "Iron Man" streak. No one will come close.

Ruth or Mays?

Willie Mays.

Unitas or Montana?

Sammy Baugh. Ok, Unitas, for the history. Montana needs to wait a little longer.

Pele or Maradona?

Pele was the best for so long, he has to win.

Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

Of course, I'm a Maryland fan, so I have to say the ACC - for basketball, not football. Every team usually competes at such a high level, although this year's an off year.
