About David »

I'm a huge Calgary Flames fan...unfortunately, I happen to be going to school at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver BC. Due to these circumstances, I rarely get to watch the Flames play on TV, and as such, often have nothing but the replays on NHL.com to go by. Since i realize these aren't the best indicators of what actually goes on in a game I try to use stats to back up my points.

I have no real writing experience or training, i just have opinions that I like to share with people, and discuss with them. In regards to my writing, please excuse any poorly written articles, I'm trying, honestly.

David Protheroe commented on Marian Hossa's Debut Puts Chicago Blackhawks Into NHL's Driver Seat

Kane, Toews, and Hossa has got to be one of, if not THE, best lines in the league. I used to think it would be Marleau,...

Marleau-Thornton-Heatley is not a bad line at all, but I agree, the Chicago line is even...

Thanks for reading and commenting on my article, David. If Bettman wants to bring the wrath of the Quebec nationalists and separtists down on his head, he can get it no faster way than by leading Quebec hockey fans up the garden path. I think there has been secret negotiations and Quebec will get the Nordiques back either by transferring an American money-loser or by an expansion team. All the NHL is waiting for is to see if they follow through and commit to build the arena.

    Hey David,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I really appreciate your interest in my articles, and will do what I can to keep you informed. I see you are out in Canuck country, so I can understand why you're keen on more Flames articles. I am planning on doing up some more stuff this year - I'd planned on it last year too, but life got in the way a bit much and I just didn't have the time I wanted to put in. Get to see a lot of games at least, lots of notes and info.

Regardless of how much I get to write, I do watch (and analyse) virtually every game, so if you are desperate for deets and you don't see an article, feel free to drop me a line and I'll do what I can to hook you up.

Thanks again. Take care, and see you on the ice,

Thanks for reading and commenting on my article, David. I already wrote an article about Balsillie starting a new league, though it wasn't all Canadian and the NHL continued to operate in Canada. But if they did pull out, I think an all-Canadian league is feasible. I remember when the WHA was around and the Canadian teams plus Hartford were their most successful franchises.

But things are different now and learning from the mistakes of the WHA, an all-Canadian league could make it within the following framework:

    1. First of all, have proper NHL size arenas. The WHA never had a proper major league arena until Edmonton built its present one. Currently there are 7 NHL size arenas in Canada so you could have 7 teams to begin with, 9 if you give Toronto and Montreal two teams which is certainly feasible. Quebecor which seeking to get the Nordiques back wants to build a new NHL-size arena, so you are looking at an 8-10 team league to start with.

    2. Have Canadian tv contracts that give increased revenue if more Canadian teams are added to league. Currently, all NHL Canadian teams have to share their revenue with newly added Canadian teams making their owners the allies of American owners who don't want more teams in Canada. A different type of tv contract would change that.

Most Canadian hockey fans would support such a league, especially as more of them have come to realize how anti-Canadian, the NHL is. Given the above two conditions, I think a new league would be successful this time.

Thanks for reading and commenting on my article David. MLB only lost half a season but it was the last half of the season so the World Series and playoffs were never played. That was the year the Montreal Expos were the best team in baseball and could have won their only World Series. Pulling the plug on the last half of the season probably led to Montreal losing their franchise.

    Hi David,

Welcome to Bleacher Report. Thanks so much for the "fan" add...it's always appreciated! I hope you find lots of things here on the site to keep you engaged; look around for anything you are interested in, ask questions, and if you like you can always try your hand at writing. If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to ask. Just leave a bulletin board message via my profile page, or use the search engine to find other writers/staff, topics, and information. As the Calgary Flames Community Leader, I am available to answer questions about the team, hockey, and the site; as well, if you ever have any feedback, know you can let loose!

I've enjoyed the comments you've made so far on NHL articles, and the writers will try to bring you more articles to keep you in the game. Also, take a look at writer archives (also via the profile pages) for a broader view of what is out there.

I see you are a Flames fan (and hockey fan from the look of your Short List)...from best to worst, the Flames go from facing the league-leading Sharks to the basement-dwelling Isles tonight! Should be a way to see if they can not only beat the best, but can avoid beating themselves by being overly confident. Calgary has the skill and the depth, and the discipline is solidifying, so.... The All-Star list seemed a bit lacking in Flames, but that's a poor reflection. Next week: Blues on Tuesday (at the 'Dome, 7.30pm MST); Sharks for Thursday (in San Jose, 8.30pm MST), and the Coyotes on Saturday night (back to Calgary, 8pm MST).

    Take care,

    M
