Darren's Bio

Hi I’m Darren. You may know my work from when I was the Sports Editor for the Viewmont High Newspaper from 1997-1988, where in addition to giving me an excuse to miss a whole lot of class time, my coverage of the Vikings just missing their first trip to the state football playoffs in 20 years, and the girls runner-up showing in the state cross country meet was highly recognized by my peers.

Since that time, I've continued to build my impressive qualifications as one of the nation’s premier sports experts by watching a lot of sports, listening to a lot of sports radio in my car, and talking a lot about sports with my friends and my brother.

I went to the University of Utah, where I got a degree in Political Science, and briefly to grad school at the University of Maryland College of Journalism, where I didn’t get anything.

My real job is creating ad campaigns for high tech clients at a big ad agency. If you happened to see the full page spread on the new line of Atomic Force Microscopes in last month’s Nanotechnology Monthly – that was me.

In addition to my article on Bleacherreport.com, I have authored and co-authored numerous briefs on advertising strategies including the critically acclaimed "Tough Customers: Reaching Today’s Software Engineers with Compelling Marketing Messages" and the award winning "Your Brand Strategy and You: 10 Ways to Get the most from Your Segmented Audience Matrix." (Copies are available by request through my agent).

I am currently working on optioning the film rights to my book "Man Up" a semi-biographical account of legendary, one-armed Hungarian water polo player Franz Kocsis, and am writing a memoir on my experiences raising two young boys entitled "Chocolate Milk in My Shoes and Finger Paint on the Dog."
