Sports has always been a passion of mine! I was born in New York City and grew up with dreams of someday becoming involved with sports in some capacity. My early influences in the sports entertainment genre were Mike Francesa, Chris Russo, Len Berman, Bill Gallo and Mike Lupica.
I decided to pursue a journalism degree at Morrisville State College where I graduated in 1997. I also spent a year at Oswego State University studying Broadcast Journalism. Ultimately I would graduate with a degree in English from Utica College of Syracuse University. I was active throughout college in student print, radio-- as well as collegiate athletics as a member of the UC Division III lacrosse team.
My journalistic career began in college when I interned at the Evening Sun, a small newspaper in rural Upstate NY. I would return briefly after college as a paid staff journalist. I would continue my career with the Oneida Daily Dispatch and a national trade publication USAE News based in Washington, DC. My journalistic career was sidetracked in 2005 due to a family illness.
I moved to Chicago in 2007 and work currently in the advertising industry. I have completed two marathon majors, New York and Chicago and plan on running the Windy City race again in 2012.
Sports is a passion of mine. I feel there is always a story behind the story. What makes sports so compelling is the human element. Anyone can hit a ball or shoot a jumpshot. It's the road to the court or the baseball diamond that captivates me as a journalist.
I look forward to some good discussion and friendly debate.
Thanks for signing up as a fan John!
