Steven's Bio

Testing, testing, 1, 2, is this thing on? OK, good! Anyway, welcome to Steve Auger's writer bio. And yes, Steve Auger is aware that he is writing this section in the 3rd person. Who is Steve Auger, you ask? Steve Auger is a 34-year old Civil Engineer by day (just to pay the bills), UMass-Amherst on-line journalism student at night and on the weekends, and full time sports fan. If you ask him, he'll tell you that WHEN, (not if), he makes it in the sports journalism business, his dream job is to cover college hoops for a living. He pinches himself at the thought of being paid to sit courtside for such events as UCLA-Arizona, UNC-Duke, Texas-Kansas, and of course, Syracuse-Georgetown. Auger has also had the privilege of attending such sporting venues as a night match at The U.S. Tennis Open (John McEnroe is right...nothing like a night match at the U.S. Open....it helped that Andre Agassi was the draw that evening), Fenway Park (a magical experience for any baseball fan), Yankee Stadium (overrated dump....he'll volunteer to help demo the place!), The Carrier Dome (how does the place NOT have air conditioning?), and Cameron Indoor Stadium (Coach K wanted to run his defensive schemes by Auger).

In Auger's spare time, he is a workout freak (just say no to fat America), watches re-runs of The Shield (Season 7 in September...what does fate hold for Vic Mackey?), and lives and dies with his beloved Red Sox (living has been good the past four years!). And yes, Auger is well aware he uses a lot of parentheses.

Feel free to stop by and drop Auger a line or comment. He'd love to hear from you. And as always, Auger will gladly sign a colored 8" by 10" glossy for you...just ask.

Most Memorable Game Attended

2006 US Open (Agassi's last tourney). First night match of the tourney on Arthur Ashe Stadium: Andre Agassi vs. Andrei Pavel. Tied at a set a piece, Agassi was trailing 0-4 in the 3rd set when he stormed back by ripping off 5 straight games, took the 3rd set in a tie break and then rolled Pavel 6-2 in the 4th for the win. When he made that comeback in the 3rd and when he was steamrolling Pavel in the 4th, I have never witnessed a louder sporting event. An electric evening to say the least.

Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Dwight Evans hit a HR on the first pitch of the season in 1986. Think about it: The record can't be broken. What pitch comes before the first pitch? The record can be tied but never broken.
