About Aces »

"Aces" is a 34-year season-ticket holder for the San Diego Chargers but has the uncanny ability to be unbiased towards the team as a result of an extensive NFL and NCAA handicapping pedigree. Proud of the fact that he had made more money wagering against the San Diego Chargers than ON the Chargers, Aces can be brutally honest about all teams in the National Football League, with the AFC Western Division being an easy target. Favorite handicapping theory -- Don't force it, wait for the good games to play. "Quality over quantity." Multiple title-holder in all types of fantasy football leagues, makes an annual trek to Las Vegas for the WSOP every summer, and values his reputation as much as his bank-roll. Aces Casino has a slightly acerbic tone at times, when he's writing at his optimum level -- bring your crash helmet!

The Shortlist »

  • Favorite Athletes

Vladimir Guerrero, Philip Rivers, Stan Humphries, Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Marcel Dionne, LaDainian Tomlinson, Dan Fouts, John Jefferson, Lance Alworth.

  • Favorite Sports Teams

San Diego Chargers, Anaheim / Los Angeles / California Angels, USC Trojans, Los Angeles Kings

  • Favorite Coaches

Pete Carroll, Bobby Ross, Bill Cowher, Mike Ditka, Bill Walsh, and all other successful head coaches that strive for discipline, team camaraderie, and the will to win.

  • All Time Sports Moment

The United States Olympic Hockey team's stunning victory over the Soviet Union in the 1980 medal round semi's.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Hello?? Back-to-back no-hitters by Johnny Vander Meer. Go ahead, try it!

  • Ruth or Mays?

Even after anoiting Mays as one of the best to EVER play the game, i'm giving the edge to the "Babe," here.

  • Unitas or Montana?

Ouch. Hmmmm..... OK, I gotta take Montana. You just couldn't beat him in any of those "big games." Unitas a VERY close second...

  • Jordan or Russell?

Bill, you were playing in a three-team league. I like all the titles that you and Red won, but Jordan is the best to EVER play, even over "Magic."

  • Gretzky or Orr?

"99" could pass the puck through a key-hole from 40 yards away. He's "the Great Gretzky." that ain't MY nick for him, someone else came up with that.

  • Pele or Maradona?

Unless the sport allows you to use your hands, i'll stick with Pele here.

  • Federer or Sampras?

Gimme the powerful Roger Federer over the relentless tactician that is Pete Sampras.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger Woods is the god's gift to golf. "The Golden Bear" doesn't usually finish second, until now.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

"Intimidator" or "The King?" Gimme a break, it's GOTTA be a tie. Maybe I should go back and give Nicklaus a tie, too.

  • Schumacher or Senna?

Until you've seen my mother-in-law drive in the Costco parking lot, your votes here are null and void.

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

The ACC rules in hoops, bar none, and the Big 12 was fun to watch on the gridiron in '08.

You'll see "Magic" in my fave athletes' list, but Michael was pretty damned good, OIP.
