Dreu's Bio

I'm an Army Reservist currently deployed to Baghdad, Iraq for a bit over 9 months (lucky me!). It's my 2nd tour, the last one was a total of 12 months "boots on ground." I'm a chemist by trade but not one of the geeky ones. Ok, I'm a little geeky but I consider myself a well-rounded geek.

My favorite sport to both play and watch is football. I'm not really into college ball because there's too many teams, bowls, and first places. It's just too much for my feeble mind to keep track of. I enjoy watching the NFL and my favorite team is the Carolina Panthers. Go Cats! I also enjoy going to minor league hockey and baseball games.

I'm happily married to my best friend. He's a Giants fan but he's learned to love my Panthers over the years which has allowed him to hang around. lol. I don't have any kids but I do have 2 dogs and 2 cats. I'm pretty much a fan of everything furry or feathered.

I tend to enjoy things that have inherent risk but on a normal day I'm pretty uninteresting. I enjoy skydiving, camping, hiking, and going on missions here in Iraq. I have a desk job here but it allows me to get out from time to time and see the sights of Baghdad. I get to talk to the people, drink some chai, and play with the kids. Since no one has tried to blow me up yet it's been rather fun. Going back to being a chemist is going to be a bit boring compared to strapping on 50 pounds of armor and weaponry but I'm sure I'll manage.

Well, that's about it, I hope that you feel like you know me. :)

  1. Hi Dreu, I apologize for taking so long in responding to you.

That's great to hear you got on the team!! I hope you guys win lots of games!

I've been keeping pretty busy here on B/R, especially with this CBS Correspondent contest they have going on. It's been fun, though!

Anyway, I'm eagerly waiting and anticipating a new Panthers (and Eagles) season! Looks to be a tough schedule for our Cats this season, but so long as no one gets any extensive injuries, I believe this team can take what their opponents dish out. It won't be an easy season, but with the Panthers, the wins rarely--if ever--come easy.

I hope to hear back from you soon, and take care! Welcome home, too!

  2. Hi Dreu, if you get a chance I just finished my latest article http://bleacherreport.com/articles/170763-recounting-the-carolina-panthers-five-most-exciting-games-of-2008 and I always appreciate if you have an opportunity to look it over.

  3. Dreu! Are you back in the States yet? Ihaven;t heard from you in a couple of months, and just wanted to see how you're doing; have you tried out for that football team yet? We HAVE to get together for a Cats game this year, and I have some more news to tell you!

  4. Dreu, that's awesome! Actually, I stumbled across the same site a couple months ago, as I am actively seeking some kind of football team to join, myself.

I definitely encourage you to tryout! That would be terrific if you can get onto a team!

Chicks and tackle football were meant to be together, lol.

I'm glad you shared that with me! I wish you the best of luck!

  5. Hey Dreu, great to hear from you!

I like to try and keep my fellow Panthers fans up-to-date with the offseason goings on, as it's not as highly publiscized, especially considering the lack of news we get durng the regular season when we're doing well anyway!

I just did a quick little blurb covering Gross' resigning and Peppers, so if you want to check it out:

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/126831-gross-is-happy-the-panthers-are-happy-but-julius-peppers-is-not-so-happy

I'm thinking Denver for Peppers for some strange reason.

Talk to you soon Dreu, stay safe.

  6. Dreu,

Right now we all need to take time out of our day, and pray for Jim Johnson. The Philadelphia Eagle's defensive coordinator who was diagnosed with skin cancer. Let me know what you think. Thanks

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/117409-eagle-fan-or-not-lets-start-praying?just_published=1

  7. OK Dreu, hope you have a safe and good time on leave. Keep in touch, or as you said catch me up when you get back. We'll be here. :)

  8. Hey Dreu, I never thought I'd do this, but if you get a chance, I called out the Panthers "fans."

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/110224-panthers-fans-is-jake-delhomme-totally-to-blame-whos-our-next-option-at-qb/page/2

I felt it was the right thing to do.

    Thanks.

I agree, and still think we are the best overall franchise in the NFL.

  9. Hang in there, Dreu. We really can't fault the Panthersa whole lot over their loss last night. The Cardinals defense was just playing that well, as well as their offense was too. We just had a terrible night, and unfortunately, we're done until next season. We'll be back though, this is a resilient team. This will leave a bad taste in their mouths and hopefully we'll stay healthy to get back here next season. :)

  10. I don't know what equipment that is you are getting into, but it looks awesome! I also like the Panthers graphic you added to the bottom of your profile pic! Sweeeet!

  11. Hi Dreu,

    Not a problem, I know you're busy!

Your husband must be somewhat nervous about this weekend's game against the Eagles!

I'm glad you liked that video! The first time I saw the Sam Mills tribute, it brought a tear to my eye. Now everytime I watch it I get a little choked up, but I use it as a motivational tool for myself. He was an awesome player for the Panthers.

Interestingly, Sam Mills was born in the same hospital as my father, and I think a less than a month before him, too.

I think the Panthers have a better shot at winning this week than they would have against the Falcons. Ever since the last game we lost to Atlanta I've been very wary of them Dirty Birds, but now we have the cute little Cardinals to play, lol.

    I'll talk to you soon!

    Eric

  12. Hey Dreu, I see you have a couple more fans, that's awesome!

I just wanted to drop by and let you know that if you're able to, here's a link on YouTube:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLOE7jfu1CE

It's a tribute to the Panthers' defense, and they did a tribute at the end of it to the late Sam Mills, where you'll also see his statue outside the stadium at then end.

    Take care!

  13. Thanks for adding me to your list!
