John Cate commented on 4 Predictions for the Theo Compensation Saga:
I think that would be plenty fair. What I don't care for is the Cubs balking at even surrendering McNutt. Selig should tell them they can...

The Strasburg Rule: Why MLB Teams Should Be Allowed To Trade Draft Picks
August 6, 2009
I have been an editor for several community newspapers in the greater Raleigh area since the mid-1990s, and I was a sports editor at a daily in the area for years prior to that. Between 1998 and 2007, I wrote a sports column every week for some of the papers I worked for. Not doing much in sports these days, but still wish I was.
I agree that using 3 mil of the Scutaro money (it actually saved them 7 million towards lux tax even though the contract was 6 mil) to sign a .240 hitter in Ross was a bad idea, However, I still think with the remaining 4 mil plus 3 - 4 more mil that they have left under the cap, they can squeeze in a SP via trade or FA and if they do that, the Scutaro trade improves the team. As to your comment of, "They may as well re-signed Drew." First, Drews ego would never allow him to sign for anything close to 3 mil. Second, at least Ross will stay on the field.
Looks like the Sox brass and I are thinking on the same page. Just days after my Scutaro article (that you bashed) they trade him to Colorado for a bag of beans, simply to clear cap space (as I suggested). I expect that money to now be used to sign Oswalt. If not, they'll trade for another reliable pitcher and use the cap space to cover his salary.
John, wondering if you had an opinion? You know I always welcome your thoughts..
