Hi, my name is Michael Desjardins. I'm a senior at Quinnipiac University, earning a degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in history.

I love just about every sport, especially football (both the professional and collegiate levels) and baseball. I am also an avid follower of wrestling.

When not watching games on television on the Internet or reading up on the latest news, I'm busy doing so much on campus. Besides the usual homework that every student has to muster through, I take part in a number of sports-related extracurricular activities. I write game recaps for both the Quinnipiac Chronicle newspaper and QBSN, the Quinnipiac Bobcats Sports Network, the university's online sports radio station; in addition, I have done both play-by-play and color commentary for the station. And if that's not enough, I also take part in Q30, our university's own television network; there, I am Assistant Producer, Panelist, and "Stat Guy" for the show "Bobcat Blitz," a show similar to ESPN's "Around the Horn."

And if even that's not enough, I just created a new sports blog that I write on occasion this July, and plan on blogging more. If you want to take a look, check out: http://thesportsshoutout.wordpress.com

When I'm not busy doing anything sports-related, I'll usually play games, either with my roommates or online. That, or just talk about sports even more!

Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

Robinson Cano, Mariano Rivera, Eli Manning, Ray Rice, Dwight Howard, Jeff Gordon

  • Favorite Sports Teams

New York Yankees, New York Giants, New York Jets, Toronto Blue Jays, Quinnipiac Bobcats, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Hendrick Motorsports

  • Favorite Coaches

Joe Torre, Joe Maddon, Rex Ryan, Bill Parcells, Jerry Sloan

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

My most memorable game is the first baseball game I ever attended. It was the summer of 2000 and I was 9 years old. My cousin and her boyfriend took me to Shea Stadium to see the Mets. Back then, I knew little about baseball, but I enjoyed watching guys like Mike Piazza, Edgardo Alfonzo, and Robin Ventura play. A decade later, an old friend of mine took me to Citi Field to watch the Mets play the Padres. Mike Pelfrey threw a 9-inning, 1-run game, but it took them 10 innings to win.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

    Joe Dimaggio's 56-game hitting streak

  • Ruth or Mays?

Ruth is the better batter, but if I were a GM, I'd take Mays.

  • Unitas or Montana?

    Joe Montana

  • Jordan or Russell?

    Michael Jordan

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

It's difficult to say, because these drivers raced in different eras of the sport. Petty was the most dominant of the '60s and '70s. Earnhardt was the most dominant of the '80s and early to mid-'90s. I think I'd put Earnhardt at a slight edge because even as he approached his 50s and facing more equal competition, he was still able to post good finishes and win races, whereas Petty's career should have ended by 1985.

  • Schumacher or Senna?

    Schumacher

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

I prefer watching the Big East or Big 10, but I enjoy watching games from all conferences.

Don't sweat it. Just think of it this way: When you're on the Internet, you're usually looking to browse things, right? Take that approach with your articles—obviously without cutting key content—by suspending sentences for emphasis when you feel they could be jump out while scanning an article.
