robert's Bio

It is time for a profile update, I think.

I'm 25, live in North Dallas, and work as an estimator/project manager for the family construction business.

I am a huge Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, and Baylor Bears fan (Dec. ’06 alum). I am trying to get into Rangers baseball, and I’ll watch the Stars a little come playoff time (no hockey playoffs for me this year), but typically the first three teams I mentioned are where my sports attention is focused.

The NFL is the only league that I really closely follow outside of my own team. The others, I just casually observe.

When it is NFL season, you will be hard pressed to hear me talking about anything but football. On that same token, when it is NOT the NFL season, you will still be hard pressed to hear me talking about anything but football.

I LOVE football.

B/R has been fun for me because it has allowed me the opportunity to interact with other sports dorks like myself that are equally obsessive about their favorite sports and teams. This site has also helped me to learn to be a little more unbiased and objective—a quality that I now pride myself on.

I still understand the homer mentality, but I also think it is important that I do my best to back up my "homerism" with logic and reason.

I write because I love it—not because I want to win article of the day, am in desperate need of attention, or am hoping to get snagged up by ESPN (although, if someone with deep pockets wants to throw me a lot of money to sit at home and write every day, I’m listening)

I also write because I love a good sports related debate or discussion. In order to enhance the possibility of such a discussion taking place, I will oftentimes post links to my “fans’” profiles. If you want to read, feel free, but believe me when I say that you won’t hurt my feelings if you can’t get to it. You also won’t hurt my feelings if you ask me not to post to your bulletin, and I will happily stop posting.

On that same token, I invite and encourage others to post their links to my bulletin, even if I am not yet your fan. If you do that, I can almost promise that I will AT LEAST skim it, and if I have something to add, I will probably leave a comment too.

In my opinion, it is this interaction between fellow writers that has made this site so great, so if you’ve got something you’re proud of, send it my way.

Oh yea, almost forgot… HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS!!!

********

In addition to my own writing, I am also a part of two roundtables. Links to both are below.

robert Writes About

The Short List What robert thinks about sport's most pressing questions

  • Favorite Athletes

Demarcus Ware, Jason Witten, Robert Griffin, JET Terry, Dirk, Romo, Willie Andrews before he got busted for pot, Emmit, Mike & Troy, Marrion Barber, Donovan McNabb despite his Eagle-ness, Peyton but NOT Eli, Tiger (I'm sure I'm the only one, right?), Chad Johnson & TO for obvious reasons, Marvin Harrison, Drew Brees, DeAngelo Williams, Steve Smith, and I could keep going... so many great ones

  • Favorite Sports Teams

    Cowboys, Mavs, Baylor Bears

  • Favorite Coaches

Art Briles, Mike Singletary, Jimmy Johnson, Scott Drew

  • All Time Sports Moment

Beating the Spurs in the playoffs and advancing to the Finals... wish we could have finished but that was still a great run. I would say the 3 Cowboys Super Bowls of the early 90s, but I was too young

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

35-34 Baylor vs Aggie was the most exciting game I have ever attended

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

No such thing as an unbreakable record...

  • Ruth or Mays?

    Yuck... baseball

  • Unitas or Montana?

Both legends but both before my time, but if you twisted my arm I would probably say.... eh, I dunno

  • Jordan or Russell?

    Jordan

  • Gretzky or Orr?

Hockey?? Really?? (Although I am sure the answer is Mr. Wayne, right? Not Batman, the other Wayne)

  • Pele or Maradona?

PELE!!!! (haha honestly, never heard or Maradon)

  • Federer or Sampras?

This isnt a sport.... Ok it is, but not one I can watch without falling quickly into REM

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

    ROAR!!.... (thats a tiger)

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

    Earnhardt was a bad man

  • Schumacher or Senna?

    Who or what?

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

    Big 12 BABY!!

  1. Robert,

I know football is your thing but I like to think this one is a worthwhile read. It is about my favorite pitcher as I was growing up.

  2. Hope it works b/c I'd love to see it. The computer mock up looked pretty damn cool, and those things usually look a bit stupid to me so I'm intrigued...

  3. Cool man, just wanted to make sure there had been no more, less reported stadium collapses (that might've been too soon).

Yeah, still waiting on the real badge, but appreciate the notice.

You'll grab one when they get around to naming 'em for NFL teams. Just happened that baseball was in season.

    Andrew

  4. Hey Robert, figured I'd drop a little baseball your way as an excuse to check in.

Hope all is well and it's just summer fun keeping you safely away from the keyboard...

Tryin' to spread the word on Pablo's behalf:

  5. Here's an article about one Miami Dolphin who had a tougher road than most in his journey to the NFL:

    Appreciate any feedback.

  6. Hey Robert,

My fantasy series has moved on to defense. Let me know what you think.

  7. Adrian Peterson is arguably the best running back in the NFL. Even as an Eagles fan, I love to watch him play.

But the Vikings better be sure not to overwork him in the upcoming years...

  8. Today Steve McNair, one of footballs greats, passed away. As we remember him for his success, I have written a piece about Air McNair. Please check it out if you can, thanks!

  9. Lets remember and celebrate the life of an NFL legend.

  10. I did a historical piece today. It is baseball so I am not sure how interested you will be.

  11. Part Two of my short series " A Lookback At The 2006 NFL Draft" is here. This time, it is the surprises of this draft thus far. Check it out when you have time. Appreciate any feedback given!
