About

First and foremost, I am a rather large Penguins fan. I am 20 years old, born and raised in Pittsburgh but I currently go to school at the University of Vermont. Great hockey up here. I'll watch basically any hockey game you can show me, and I would actually still play if I didn't smoke so many cigarettes.

My favorite team is the Pittsburgh Penguins, but I am also prone to rooting for teams that boast players currently on my fantasy roster. Call me crazy, but I like to win in whatever I do, especially if my money is on the line. My favorite athlete is Sidney Crosby, his vision on the ice is absolutely impeccable. He protects the puck like nobody else his size, and his ability to effortlessly put the puck right on someone's tape from anywhere on the ice makes him the best all around player in the NHL. Oh yeah, did I mention he plays defense, quietly wins alot of his face-offs, and is generally a class act? I didn't have to because you already knew that. Just kidding. But really, he's a force.

I am kind of new to sports writing, but I have been writing expository essays throughout my entire school career, and on through college as a History major, so there isn't really a big barrier there. I love to write and I am passionate about the Pittsburgh Penguins and the NHL as a whole. There are always plenty of exciting teams and players in this league nowadays to watch and read about, I couldn't complain even if I lived in Tampa Bay. Well, maybe I could but at least I would have some hope.

Feel free to hit me up anytime if you want my insight on any new happenings in the NHL or most importantly, the Pittsburgh Penguins. I hope to make alot of friends, and write alot about my favorite sport, hockey. Also if anyone wants to Friend me on Facebook, I am the Dylan O'Brien at the University of Vermont. Hope to hear from many of you.

And Yes, that is a mugshot of Ed Belfour.

Well I did receive NHL Media Certification early this year, which allows me to download the media guide, which has lots of contacts in it. And I can also apply for game credentials and things like that, so I have met a lot of guys that way.

But I also have season tickets to the London Knights of the OHL, and so far this year there I have talked to Steve Thomas, Sergei Kostitsyn, Sam Gagner, and Matthew Barnaby..lol It's owned by the Hunter brothers, so there is a big NHL connection there.

Other than that, it's like you said, getting the name out there, being courteous and being sponge-like. Just taking all these peoples advice and stuff like that.

Did you have someone in mind you would like to get a hold of? Perhaps I could slip you an address?

    Hey Dylan,

Thanks for the reads and comments, it's always appreciated.

As for my interviews, it's a bit of a combination of both. Some of the interviews come from contacts, while others it's a bit of door knocking.

Yeah in order to get a guy like Ilya, we would have to part with young guys, maybe a veteran as well and a draft pick or something. I was thinking maybe a guy like Goligoski and Staal plus Hal Gill/draft pick, whichever Atlanta would prefer. I would imagine the draft pick. I would rather keep Whitney on board, we've nurtured that talent too much not to keep him on board, as he is a very gifted puck-mover and will be top PP guy once he comes back and until Gonch is 100%. I can't wait to see what happens; either way the Pens will be dirty.

I haven't sent eric yet on his next show, but I will be tuning in so I will be giving my two cents during the show and what not.
I do like Terrien though a lot, I like his charisma and the way he handles all aspects of the game and team. The one thing I don't like is his shoot-out lineups. I think he needs to work on those to be more successful.
I honestly can see the Pens getting rid of Hal Gill, Mark Eaton, Ryan Whitney, and it's hard to say but if they want Kovalchuk they may have to give up Jordan Staal. But they are going to have to get rid of some D here by the deadline...By March they will have about 9 D that can play in the NHL and will have to deal with that.
I guess we will have to see here in the next few months what happens

    Hey Dylan,
Welcome to BR!! As one of the NHL Community Leaders, I hope you enjoy your time here and rise to the top! Looking at a few of your articles, I like what you have. You seem to have great talent, and as such, you are going to get great exposure on the site. The first thing you have to learn, and it will take time, perhaps a month or so, is the "BR Algorithm"...aka, how to get more exposure. Articles are posted on the front page and the NHL main page based on many aspects, including number of reads, average star rating, pick of the day votes, and more! A catchy headline also helps, but make sure you include necessary information of what the article is about or people will not read it.
Also, something I had trouble with my first month or two on BR was rushing articles. You don't need to write six articles in one day, if you write one every day, even every other, and spend a great amount of time on each one, you will rise the ranks faster, and more people will respect you. There are way too many people on this site ranked high because they have written 500 mediocre articles, and those people are not respected. BT, one of the other NHL CLs has not even written 200 articles on this site, is technically ranked fourth on the NHL page, but is the most respected writer in our community, and if you look at any of his articles, you will immediately know why. Make each article special, and put everything into it. Don't write simply for the sake of writing; write only when you actually have a point. Never force an article.

That was kinda long, but if you need more, let me know. Good luck, and hope to see you soon on the main page!
