there is also Kris Bryant to consider. He isn't a pitcher, either. But he is good 3rd base prospect with power and a 'makeup' guy as...

Jason Parini recently earned a bachelor's of architectural studies from Southern Illinois University. He grew up in Joliet, Illinois and is a lifelong Chicago sports fan, excluding the White Sox. He follows the Cubs, Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks, Fighting Illini, and Southern Illinois Salukis. He became interested in sports writing while studying at SIU and has written for Bleacher Report since January 2012.

Hey, can't believe I'm just getting around to this, but thanks!
You're welcome, Jason! Keep up the good work.
your articles suck you Illinois homer!!
I got my degree from the University of Houston. My siblings all went to Notre Dame, and I grew up watching my older brother play ball during the early 90's. I had an option to go to Notre Dame, but didn't because I felt the school of architecture to be too traditional, and at that time I felt the program was too archaic (they focus on traditional design and historical studies - sort of a hold back from the Beaux Arts programs from the past century)... I went to UH because, that school afforded me a chance to learn in a large city, and under a program that despite the school at large is very good (or was). Ironically I'm now working on far more traditional design and historic preservation!
Jason, I'm not trying to be offensive, or say your wrote a bad article - I just think if you had given some additional time to the "...Leprechaun..." article and addressed additional teams giving it a broader range it would have had more teeth.
I'm actually intrigued by the idea of using potentially offensive names for team mascots, and how some (not all) can still use them. The Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians are the worst in my opinion yet the NFL and MLB won't force them to change. However, I just don't see a fictitious character taken from folklore and adopted as a mascot as offensive. In the early years Notre Dame provided a solid educational footing for thousands of Irish descended students, unlike a lot of state schools that used Pre-Columbian/First Nation Peoples imagery etc and probably did not allow thousands of those people to attend college there for one reason or another.
I'm happy to continue this discussion and I am intrigued.
By the way best of luck in architecture school. I finished architectural school back before the great debacle that is still the Great Recession of 2008/2009, really tough finding architectural jobs these days...though in Texas, North Carolina, and the DC area I think jobs are fairly hot.
Hey, Jason...liked your article. While I do like the bigger screen and less prominent advertising than the old scoreboard, I have to agree with several of your comments. I do not care for the Tigers script lighted sign at the top, and agree it mimicks the Indians very closely. Although this is a classic baseball lettering style (almost every Little League team in the country uses the tail underneath design), I actually perferred the sharp lines of the previous scoreboard and the undualation of the lettering. My least favorite takeaway was the loss of the clock; I thought they really took away that nostalgic scoreboard feel when they decided to nix that from the new design. Bigger isn't always better...I've been to the Yankees new stadium and I don't care for much of what they did there, especially the gigantic plain jane scoreboard they put up; it has no character whatsoever. Maybe that's what I miss most about the new Tigers scoreboard vs. the old one--not as much character.
Jason, thanks for your fan add as well!!
