About Brian R. »

Brian is a recent grad of the University of Montana with a B.A. in European and Islamic Studies.

He recently moved back to Chicago and is seeking work writing on the Chicago Bulls and Cubs. Brian believes that every sports team should conduct its business with the intention of providing their fan base with entertainment and a clear strategy for winning. Unfortunately, not all of them seem to be doing this. As a die-hard Cubs fan, he knows what suffering year-in and year-out for ones team is all about, and as a life-long Bulls fan, he knows how the glories of success feel, and how the depths of uncertainty can ultimately change the entire culture of an organization and its fan base.

A hardened optimist (One must be to stay a Cubs fan), yet he will never hold back to criticize my team when he feel they are making irresponsible and destructive decisions. Writing with an emphasis on history, Brian focuses how each move a team makes matches up with those in the past, and how past successes and failures can aide, or hurt them in the present and future. Like his beliefs towards professional teams, he writes for the masses. Brian believes that the best sports writers are those who combine the statistics, culture, history and goals of a team into a narrative-styled essay that is appealing to all readers and fans.

Brian's love for music is only second to his love for Chicago sports. Some of his favorites are, Wilco, U2, Bob Dylan, Radiohead, My Morning Jacket, Bruce Springsteen, The Band, Broken Social Scene and The Arcade Fire.

1996 NBA Eastern Conference First Round Game 1: Bulls vs. Heat; close game down the stretch, but the Bulls overcame the physical play of the Heat, got in their heads, leading to the ejections of Alonzo Mourning and Pat Riley. Bulls never looked back on their way to the Championship.
