About Dave »

First and foremost, I'm a family man with three great kids and a beautiful wife. I'm a MD Terp grad (mechanical engineering) and currently work for the US Navy as an aircraft fire protection test engineer. I've spent my life in or around the US Navy.

After high school (Broadneck High in Annapolis, MD) in 1985, I enlisted into the US Navy as a machinist mate, where I worked in the engine room aboard the USS Guam, LPH-9. I am a veteran of both Operation's "Desert Shield" and "Desert Storm". Through six years in the Navy I was fortunate enough to have visited/toured 12 other countries throughout the Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf...I highly recommend it to any "single" person looking to serve their country, while broadening their horizons.

Upon honorable discharge, I married, started having children, and started attending classes at Anne Arundel Community College...all within a two year period. After six years of part timing work and college, I graduated from UMCP.

Since college, I've worked for Bethlehem Steel at Sparrow's Point, Geomet Technologies (an Army contractor who manufactures Chemical/Biological Warfare Suits) and since 2002 have worked on the design/testing of aircraft fire protection systems at PAX River Naval Air Station (St Mary's County, MD).

With all of that being said, my passion is sports.
Of course, I enjoy watching all sports, but particularly those teams which represent Baltimore, the University of Maryland (GO TERPS!), as well as, the Navy Midshipmen in Annapolis, MD. I currently reside in beautiful St Mary's County (since 2003), where the Washington D.C. teams predominately hold the fan base, but having spent most of my life in Annapolis along with our family's roots coming from Baltimore, I am a "Charm City" fan through and through! (If only I could get DirecTV to cut me some slack on that whole marketing region "thing" and to let our house receive the Baltimore stations versus the D.C. stations that we are currently forced to watch!?!?!)

...but, I get more enjoyment out of coaching and playing sports. In particular, baseball and football. I've played baseball for much of my life and for the past 12 years, since my kids started playing baseball & football, I've been coaching both sports through the St Marys Americal Little League (SMALL) and the St Marys "Pigskin" football league. I love being able to take a bunch of kids and molding them into a TEAM, who's values are based on good sportsmanship and the fundementals of the game.

I'm a baseball and football nut...and enjoy every minute of it!

What up everyone? I wrote an article about the changes here on B/R over the last couple of months, and about some of the things that we used to have, that we don't anymore. If you could, check it out.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/261261-dear-bleacher-report-please-bring-back-the-old-format

As I have said in the past, many times, I am not on here for AOTD votes, but I believe that if enough of you give me your AOTD vote, then maybe the higher ups will bring back some of the things that are gone.

Thanks a bunch, I really appreciate it.

I said in an article last week that when one door closes, another one opens. Here is the story about my door opening. If you get the chance, please check it out. It would mean a lot to me.

If you get the chance, check out my newest article. What the future holds for the offensive line of the Steelers.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/208782-what-to-expect-from-the-steelers-offensive-line-after-this-year

A lot of people may not agree with me, but I think in time, everyone will see that this is a real possibility.

CBSSports has asked us what we would ask if we were given the opportunity to interview one of the stars of our team. Here is what my interview with Big Ben Roethlisberger would look like.

If you get the chance, please take a read, and feel free to comment.

As everyone else is, I am applying for the CBSSport job for the Steelers. I wrote an article about how I grew up a Steeler fan.
If you could, take a look and feel free to comment if you would like.

Thanks,

Hey Dave,

I have recently been chosen as a contestant in AM 1570 WNST’s King of Baltimore Sportstalk Competition to see if I can fulfill a dream of blogging and doing radio for a living. Since you were kind enough to become a fan of my work here on Bleacher Report, I wanted to personally invite you to take a look at my new blog at WNST.net. The link can be found here:

http://wnst.net/wordpress/lukejones/

Please read and comment (as always, agree or disagree as much as you want!) on my work. The competition will also include a voting element that will begin in the near future. My goal is to bring you the same analysis and focus on sports (with a Baltimore-based focus) that I have tried to do since joining Bleacher Report in August 2008.

Thank you so much for your support!

Dave, I have had a great time debating with you. Sorry to end the debate as a total smart ass, that is just how I am. I just read your profile, so I wanted to say thanks for your service. Anyone that wears the uniform of the armed forces deserves all respect. God bless you and your family.

Dave,

Was your team one of the many who failed to make the playoffs in 2008? Here's six teams that will bounce back in 09'. Let me know what you think.
