JJ's Bio

I'm an aspiring journalist attending the University of Missouri in beautiful Columbia, MO, home of the No. 4 college football team in the nation. Fight Tigers!

My passion is baseball, and after finishing up a 30-part team-by-team preview of the 2008 season, I'm now working on penning my analysis of every Sox game of this season. I'm also the White Sox Community Leader here, so post a note on my board if you want to be part of the next Community White Sox Roundtable!

I'm the publications coordinator for Mizzou Volleyball and a staff writer for www.soxandthecity.net. I'm also going to be doing a weekly national sports column for The Maneater, Mizzou's student newspaper, starting in the fall of 2008. If you want to get in contact with me, shoot me an e-mail at jjsmmf@mizzou.edu.

  1. Actually, I'd like for them to finish last (without any excuses this year of course) because then people would start to realize how much we suck. People have started to turn off of JP Ricciardi, but people keep saying that "Gibbons is a good manager" and I don't know where it's coming from—I want to slap them everytime they say that.

The sad thing about our pitching, is that the past two years it's been excellent (I would say it's been pretty good most of this year, especially lately) but we have an offense that will score one run in one inning of a game and think that's enough. Then when it gets to the 7th and 8th inning, and our starters are still in the game, they start to over compensate for the lack of run support, because they can see that, given an entire game, our team can score one (maybe two) runs.

We all drank the Kool-Aid on this team this year (which will be some sort of article if Gibby/JP get fired, or in June...I figure May is still too early to rip them a new one haha).

At least the White Sox have Ozzie though, and he is enjoyable if nothing else. Whether he's ramming a baseball bat up a blow up doll's ass or not. Good times.

  2. If I had my say it would have been after he let Reed Johnson go. Now? I figure he'll be allowed to bring back Brad Fulmer, and possibly trade for Barry Zito before anyone's allowed to even touch JP. Something drastic needs to happen with this team (ie. Finishing LAST) for any monumental change to take place. If this were New York or Boston, people would want heads rolling, but not here in 'ever-so-nice Canada'.

And as Sean said, why is firing him out of a cannon into Lake Ontario impossible? It's just figuring out the trajectory, how to convince him to go to the top of the CN Tower and how to get a cannon up there are our only problems.

Who knows, maybe he'll get hit by a street-car.....or an anvil.

  3. Not a problem, I'm a big fan of your work. I always forget your formatting quirks and forget to go back and change them, sorry about that. Keep the great work coming!

  4. I went to Baylor for a year and a half, this past semester i did the community college thing.

  5. Always good to meet a Tiger. I'm one by fanhood and not by college attendance but I'm am considering a transfer so maybe MU will become my home.

  6. Yea...well at least you guys have been scoring runs at some point this season. I'm just glad McGowan looked so good on just another one of those nights (that happen far too frequently) where we think we only need one run. haha

Sorry about the sweep though man! (You'll probably get us later in the year anyhow).

  7. Hey JJ - my e-mail is pnoles1@gmail.com

  8. All right, JJ: just letting you know that I sent in my responses.

  9. Thanks man....as I was writing this, I was wondering if it might be an "out of the element" kind of thing. Like, some of the Sox fans there must have been displaced, and not "at home" so hence their courteousness? (Im not assuming they're jerks or anything at home...but anyhow haha) so maybe the Toronto fans that you run into are just kind of culture shocked that they aren't in Toronto.

I have to admit though, you guys are as nice as they come, and your team (although they don't sign very long) are some of the more courteous players in the league—guys like Toby Hall and AJ stopped to talk with fans and everything. Must be nice haha

  10. Thanks for the heads-up, man. My e-mail is jakestanley17@yahoo.com. Just send them in anytime tomorrow and I'll get my answers into you by the evening. Thanks again!

  11. Hey JJ, I'm Chris P. I'm new out here on Bleacher Report, but I would definitely like to be a part of the White Sox Community Roundtable. It's good to see so many differing voices commenting on the aspects of the Sox organization, and I've got a lot to say. So let me know what I can do to get involved. In the meantime, good work on your articles and check me out: I'll be doing a "White Sox Week in Review" column every Saturday. Take care and go Sox.
    -Chris

  12. From afar, it looks like you're peeing on the hot dogs.

  13. Dammit! You think we're funny? We were going for a Romantic Dramedy (drama-comedy).

I didn't think you plagiarized, I was just pointing out that someone else beat you to the punch.

Mainly I was just shit talking / joking around.

    XOXO.

  15. I got to ask man, what's your take on Santiago Casilla? He's pitched 13.1 scoreless innings this season, and dating back to last year it's 17.1. Pretty strong showing from this guy, and he's fairly under the radar too!
