About Greg »

I love to write about sports, I love to think about sports, I love my fantasy sports teams, and I love to play sports. I enjoy thinking about sports economics and its impact on society both in local areas and on the national and global stages. I like sports movies, sports radio, sports in Hi-Def, sports games on just about every system, and if I get a chance to write about sports, I'll do it.

I think that sporting leagues are the original, true reality television and "realty tv" needs to get a new name. I think that every college football rivalry deserves a cool nickname. I think that sports are a great distraction from life's weights, provide great memories and hope.

I believe Bob Ryan asked what life is like for people that aren't sports fans...and I can't imagine its as interesting as yours and mine is.

Turning Two

The Shortlist »

  • Favorite Athletes

So many Boston atheletes...how about this....Favorite Athletes that DIDN'T play for Boston. Jackie Robinson, I've got his home and away Dodgers jerseys. Justice Alan Page went to law school while he played Pro Bowl caliber football. Vince Young, purely for his Rose Bowl performance, and Ichiro Suzuki, for punching every baseball fan in the eye in his Rookie of the Year, MVP season.

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Whoa - I root for all the Boston teams unabashedly. Favorite NON-Boston teams I'd want to play for - Washington Redskins, LA Dodgers, New York Rangers, Portland Blazers, and the Cork Hurling team!

  • Favorite Coaches

Oh man...who is my favorite non-Boston coach? These days its probably Joe Torre with that book coming out!

  • All Time Sports Moment

    2004 World Series

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

Game 6 of the 2008 NBA Finals in Boston

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Johnny Van Der Meer's Back to Back no-hitters; Pete Rose pointed out that to break the record you'd have throw a third no-hitter in a row.

  • Ruth or Mays?

What, no Barry Bonds? I'd have to give it to the first guy to hit 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 Home Runs, but man comparing different eras is so rough!

  • Unitas or Montana?

    Tom Brady, then Montana

  • Jordan or Russell?

If only Bill Russell retired to play baseball, maybe he could have been as nice as Jordan - "But Greg he could have won three mo- " But he didn't, and that's still only 9. Tuck it in and go to bed.

  • Gretzky or Orr?

Different players. I'd have to take Wayne first in an all time draft though.

  • Pele or Maradona?

    Pele of course.

  • Federer or Sampras?

Agassi was more fun to watch than both of them when he had long hair and boycotted Wilmbledon because he had to wear white.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger by a landslide, even if he retired right now. Longevity would have to go to Nicklaus, but that's aboslutely all.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Jimmy Johnson, then Ricky Bobby, then who? I forget the question.

  • Schumacher or Senna?

Michael Schumacher, because Tony Schumacher is nasty.

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

I like the Pac 10 and I live in Massachusetts. The ACC needs to earn my love.

Everyday Michael Vick is close to his first regular season game since the dog-fighting charges. Is it time for Vick to be forgiven?

Hi there,

I have recently started my own project to rank the top 100 hockey players off all-time and just recently posted players 1-10. I would love to hear what you think about my list or for you to even post your own list in the comments section. Please, give it a read!

Greg,

We all know that David Ortiz is in the middle of a terrible slump, and it has caused many to jump the gun and exclaim that this slump means that Ortiz has taken performance enhancing drugs and/or that his career is over because of a bad month. I jump to the defense of Big Papi, explaining in detail how neither of those judgments are true. I put a lot of time into this, and would love to hear what you think.

I think the big thing is commenting and being engaging. If you notice, I have 1000 more comments than you...

Writing articles that are read, and rated well are a big factor too.

Well, I'm an active duty Marine with absolute no potential of taking any kind of leave of absence... so no. Oh well. Someone deserving will get it.

Just a small note Greg, but I personally feel you should take that work and convert it into a standard article! I like slide shows, but when I'm reading something like your latest I would love to be able to just scroll up and see something else again rather than click click... I don't know.. personal preference I guess.

Great article though! Are you trying for the CBS Sports gig?

Hey man - I think I know you. Have you ever :

A) Worked at a DeAngelos in Drum Hill ?
B) Grew up in Chelmsford and attended a private H.S. (I forget the name)
C) Were ever best buds with an X-files geek named Rob ?

If by some Un-Godly coincidence I have the wrong Greg Sheehan, my apologies. If this is you - you're going to get a fucking kick out of who this is.

Either way let me know

This morning, the MLB community was shell shocked with the news that 22-year old Angels rookie Nick Adenhart was killed in a car accident. Read all about it right here
