I grew up in the middle-of-nowhere Maine. As such, I grew up cheering not for "local" teams (I still refuse to acknowledge the Boston Red Sox or even the New England Patriots as local), but for teams whose players I found interesting as a little kid.

While I follow most major sports (the Big Four, plus English soccer and the PGA Tour), I'm most involved with San Jose Sharks and Tottenham Hotspur. I also follow the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans (born a Houston Oilers fan), Pittsburgh Pirates, Miami Hurricanes and Orlando Magic.

    2001 NCAA National Championship. I've only seen one championship among all of the teams I follow in my lifetime. And it was a good one. Few teams rival the 2001 Miami Hurricanes and their domination of Nebraska.

    Miami-Florida State, September 2004. My first game as a Hurricane. The 'Canes came from behind to win in overtime, 16-10.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

    It's cliche, but the 56-game hitting streaks seems untouchable, at least among records that are still discussed and attempted with any frequency.

  • Ruth or Mays?

    Babe Ruth.

  • Unitas or Montana?

    Johnny Unitas.

  • Jordan or Russell?

    Ugh... close call. A slight edge to Michael Jordan.

  • Gretzky or Orr?

    Wayne Gretzky.

  • Pele or Maradona?

    Pele.

  • Federer or Sampras?

    Roger Federer.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

    Tiger Woods.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

    Dale Earnhardt.

    Don't have a horse in that race.

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

    Despite my 'Canes bias, the SEC is simply unrivaled right now.

    Thank you for becoming a fan of mine. Always appreciate to have readers out there.

    I like your allegiances. I'm from Minnesota, so Vikes, Twins, Wild and the lowly Wolves come first for me, but I cover the Sharks and the Bucs are my favorite NL team (I love their park).

    Good luck as you enter the world of sports journalism at B/R. It is definitely the best place to start.
