CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT TO RESTORE SIGHT TO THE BLIND

The inaugural Seva Charity Golf Tournament to restore sight to the blind takes place on Monday, April 20, 2015, at the Sequoyah Country Club in the Oakland Hills, 4550 Heafey Road, Oakland CA. 100% of the proceeds go towards financing eye surgeries in the poor countries of the world. The tournament is being produced by an all-volunteer team.
“80% of the world’s 39 million blind people could have their sight restored by a simple 15 minute operation costing an average of only $50,” says Jack Blanks, Executive Director of Seva. “I can think of no other way that so many lives could be transformed, for such a small investment.”
“Seva specializes in curing blindness by performing low-cost cataract eye surgeries in the poorer countries of the world, such as India, Nepal, Tibet, Cambodia, and East Africa. Eye surgeries in the USA typically cost thousands of dollars, but are now being performed for only $50 in the Third World, due to innovations created by Seva. Jack Blanks is available to the news media for interviews by calling 510-845-7382 or emailing jblanks@seva.org.
The tournament is open to golfers of all skill levels. It will feature a shotgun start at Noon with a 4-person Texas scramble. The suggested donation is $200 per person ($175 before April 1st) or $700 per foursome. This includes:
    • 18 holes of golf, golf cart
    • Continental breakfast
    • Boxed lunch
    • Wine, beer, and beverages
    • Putting contest
    • Gift bag valued at more than $100
    • Free massage before and after the tournament
    • K-vest/Bio-feedback clinic
    • Silent auction
    • Raffle
    • Awards Ceremony, with complimentary appetizers, wine, beer, and refreshments.
Corporate Sponsorships and Hole Sponsorships are available. In-kind donations are most appreciated. Ads may be purchased in the Program Booklet. Volunteers are also sought to promote the tournament and also to work on the day of the tournament.
Anyone wishing more information may visit www.seva.org or call Rich Gosse at 415-479-3800.

Great article on American fans and their manners. I could hear the gallery during the television broadcast and I was also embarrassed. As a very pro-American sports fan and an avid golfer that has played team and individual events, I agree completely with your comments. There's a time and a place for everything and a major doesn't equal the partisan nature of the Ryder Cup.
