The Mouth of Truth says:

I'm one of those people who is trying to figure out exactly what I'm going to do when I "grow up", even though my kids are all but grown up now. I'm a lifelong Boilermaker, as well as a Colts and Cubs fan. I try to integrate my passion for history and anthropology into my professional life as an educator - I'm a K-12 outreach coordinator - but in the end I still want to write about people, sports, and the human condition. I'm not sure what that all adds up to, so if you can figure it out then let me know.

The Shortlist »

  • Favorite Athletes

The "Quiet Man" Marvin Harrison, Drew "Cool" Brees, and Purdue's freshman stars, Robbie "lunch pail" Hummel and E'Twaun "Schmooge" Moore, Scott "my favorite" Martin, and JaJuan "I got game" Johnson.

  • Favorite Sports Teams

    Boilermakers, Colts, Cubs, and

  • All Time Sports Moment

Making it to the Rose Bowl with my whole "Purdue family" in January, 2001.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

#1 has to be when Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson led Purdue over Michael Finley and Wisconsin in 1994. They traded big shot after big shot for 40 minutes. Though he won't be remembered as a great NBA player despite averaging 21 points/game in the pros, Glenn was one of the absolute BEST college players the game has seen in my lifetime. He scored with ease (30+ points/game in '94) and played with lots of heart every time out.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Cal Ripken's consecutive game streak, John Wooden (a Boilermaker) winning 9 NCAA titles at UCLA.

  • Ruth or Mays?

Mays - the most complete "baseball player" of all time

  • Unitas or Montana?

Unitas - no contest despite Montanas multiple titles Johnny U was the prototype QB.

  • Pele or Maradona?

Pele - the original soccer hero

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

The Big Ten - the original Collegiate Athletic Conference, where kids still actually go to class and earn real degrees, not just major in "eligibility" like they do in the SEC. (PAC 10 a close 2nd).

The Boilermakers appear to be on their way to a special season. I'll be writing plenty about them in the weeks ahead.
