Jose's Bio
"Jose Miguel Burgos, 26, is the founder and editor of MLS en Espanol.net, a soccer site for Spanish speaking fans that took off in its initial 2008 season.
Burgos was born in Chile, professionally trained at Deportes Concepcion and Universidad Catolica, earned an economics degree in the US on a soccer scholarship, and is convinced that “Hispanics are the only market that can get MLS and soccer to the point it wants to be.”
His writing stands apart from the English speaking soccer media - it's personal, political, passionate, and would be considered controversial if Americans could read Spanish. English-only fans do well to look over the images and names on the site, as they would a designated player jogging on the sidelines, to stay abreast of the growing Hispanic impact on MLS.
As well as offering news, edgy commentary, and scoops on Hispanic player trades, the site is a forum for Hispanic fans to vent and speculate freely about anything. In turn, he attacks the reluctance of Hispanics to buy into MLS and urges them to claim it as their own. In the daytime, Burgos is a lobbyist for the Illinois Department of Transportation".
