I love hockey, especially the Sharks. That's the team I grew up with, although I will admit that I do have a picture of myself in a Mighty Ducks sweatshirt. I was young and naive! I have a picture of me at around three years old with SJ Sharkie biting my head at a game, probably one of my finest moments.

As of right now, I'm planning on becoming a hockey writer or a hockey broadcaster. If that doesn't pan out, I could possibly work in the front office for a hockey team. I haven't really decided, it's one of the joys of being relatively young.

I've got this great gift of knowing more about hockey than I do about stuff I need to know for school. I've even had an old teacher of mine tell me to become a hockey analyst. My current journalism teacher says I'm obsessed with hockey...but I like to think of it as dedication.

I am the San Jose Sharks Community Leader, so if you have any questions or comments, feel free to just leave a note on my bulletin board and I'll contact you as soon as I can!

If he had mono, that definitely needs to be taken into consideration, although it still burns me he jumped over that goal in game one. I want to point out that to be consistent, Ehrhoff was playing hurt in the post-season.
Part of the reason I said to let Marleau go isn't that he's not good, but that he is the face of a failed franchise. And certainly not all leaders have to be vocal--that's just what WE need, but you are right we could get that through adding another JR or two.
However, I fully disagree with you on one thing: salary does matter. Letting Ehrhoff go won't free up space to get anyone better, while trading Marleau gets us an impact player, preferably on the blue line. We have lots of forwards. It's not personal, it's strategic.

I await your well-targeted counterpoint...maybe someone from Doug Wilson's staff is reading this!

The Sharks deserve alot of credit for how well they played tonight. They may have dropped the first two games but tonight was one of the best games i have ever seen.

No. I'm not, because he is 24. We need more veterans back there, but overall he played a good game. Actually, I was happy with the job all of our defensemen did tonight, but no one except maybe Murray had a good playoffs overall.

Yup, 16 points. I went 6/8 on teams (12 pts), and predicted the Rangers in 5, Avs in 6, Sharks in 7, and got the games right for 'Ducks in 6' prediction.

Wow, you had tickets to game 7. Nice!!

So I was creeping your board here and noticed you and a few are doing some playoff pool picks thingy.
I noticed it's 2 points for picking the right team to advance, and an extra point for correctly picking the number of games. Also if you pick the wrong team but correct # of games, that's still a point (and vice versa for picking wrong # of games but correct team)
So adding up my first round predictions and if what I said above is the rules...I'd have 16.
So you're lucky i'm not in your pool thing...hehe

Anyways, good luck to your Sharks, I picked them in 7.

haha Danielle, your article "Why the San Jose Sharks are Like My Ex-Boyfriends" had me laughing straight through. It was an excellent critique of the Sharks and their on-again-off-again attitude.

I'm a Whalers fan (I can't even bear to watch more than a game or two of the post-lockout Bruins) from childhood, but I'm still a free-agent right now. The Sharks are a team that I feel a connection to more than most (the Worcester Sharks play minutes from my childhood home and currently feature T.J. Fox who played for my alma mater before being drafted by the Sharks).

Keep up the great work, and if the Sharks decide to turn it on (and leave it on) they might gain one more fan. You won me over with this piece though, so I've got to add you as a favorite writer.

OK, I have a question for you and I want you to remember Mr. Spock's words from the first Star Trek movie, "I have no ego to bruise." I graduated with a minor in Journalism in 1990 and haven't done much writing for news since then, I basically concentrated my efforts in broadcasting. I'm thinking about getting either a part-time writing, editing position or going freelance. In your opinion, do I have what it takes, honestly? Or is this just a pipe-dream I'm thinking about. Hello fellow first-round fan! (And of course we both hope we'll see the second round!)

I just wanted to check in since I'm sure we'll be writing on the same thing for the next week at least. It takes a while for me to post, but I have some plans for the playoffs and don't want to step on your toes. Granted, I am writing as a Flames fan so thwere will be differences, but like you I hope to write a relatively unbiased view.

I usually do a (too long) game recap and analysis, and plan on a few other tangental topics, including the rest of the NHL playoffs (you, me, and the rest of BR!). Let me know if there's anything you had pegged as a topic you may worry I'd double up on, or if there's any Flames-specific info you might need.

I actually dont, I go to school down at UCSB so it will be hard to make it up this year. Thank God the NHL gets excellent TV coverage (/sarcasm). If they play the Ducks in Anaheim though, I'll probably go to at least two games. Are you going to any of the games?

I hate to plug the blog again (haha) but I set up a Pick Em Tournament for the first round. I'd love to see what you have to say.

Danielle I have a proposition for you: Derrick Harmsworth and I are setting up a little four-person pool with regards to the Stanley Cup playoffs, as the Toronto Maple Leafs community leader, he's grabbing one of his people, and I've got the opportunity to select someone from the entire NHL community to round the number off to four, and I figured we'd give'er a lil Western flavor...so how about it?

Basically what it is, is the four of us will be in contact, and probably publish our four articles around the same time (late tuesday, early wednesday....either way they'll all be published sometime before the start of the first round) and we just hyperlink to the other authors articles. It can be structured anyway you want (For instance, I may try using some Naked Gun references and get Frank Drebin in here to help me out....I'm sure I'll fail but it's worth a shot!) so long as the picks and the links are there!

Get back to me, I'd love to have you in on this!

Hey Danielle, Nabby often looks like he is sleeping, I think he is trying to concentrate. The whole team was flat after Ducks game. BTW I guess that is Setaguchi in the picture with you. Living in Boston, which is one of America's hockey hotbeds, I've found the exact opposite. The youth programs out here are more widespread and comprehensive, and obviously it's a varsity high school sport, but NHL fans are just cheerleaders for their teams and get in to heated debates while failing to actually bring up valid points. Hearing a Philly fan argue with a Devils fan is as priceless as it is frustrating...

That is funny Danielle, our winter's bite, harder than a 'shark'..ha..ha.. and congratulations on Hockey Buzz, it never hurts to have your name and columns out there in more then one media. Also, congratulations on your Sharks getting into the playoffs last night..let's see if your forecast of a second round visit becomes a reality..it will be all about 'Nabby' as you would say and by the way we thank you in Toronto for Toskala..he is a wonderful little goalie and Leaf Nation has embraced him wholeheartedly. I wrote about him in my last article. Did you see the goal that the Islanders scored on him on Tuesday night? Funny shit..if not go check it out on YouTube. Take care and Happy Easter!

Danielle, in Canada woman journalists covering hockey either in print or electric media are becoming quite the norm. You following hockey passionately, should and will lead you to a career in broadcast journalism. P.S. Having a crush on Kariya is not a bad thing, I am sure that there are those who still have crushes on him albeit in St. Louis. LOL. I'll be watching and reading, keep up the fine 'play-by-play!'

Danielle, I've read some of your work on the Sharks, and I must say that I'm impressed.

You're very thorough in your writing, and definetly have a great knowledge and passion for the Sharks! I'm impressed! It's refereshing to find other writers on here that have different opinions of teams that don't necessarily get the coverage some other teams do, and it's good to see that you're motivated!

Seriously though, your break-downs and analysis are excellent. I have to say, that as a Toronto fan...THANK YOU FOR TOSKALA...I've talked to a few different Sharks fans about him since the trade was made, and some seem to think that he should have been kept over Naber (your thoughts? haha)but he's provided a little bit of light for the future here in T.O. (And Calgary's pretty happy with Kipper I hear too! haha).

I take issues with writers too, as I've thrown my "no name dropping of writers I hate" rule and openly ripped Steve Simmons a few times. It's fun. I've also found that with the larger market I live in (Toronto is everything evidently) I've been able to expand my range of articles team-wise. It's always interesting to hear an "outside" take of a team, and I think that's something you'd be great at.

Anyhow, my strange rambling is done for now. It was good reading your stuff, and again, if you have any questions, feel free to ask away (I'm not as smart as some of these other community leaders, but I'm damn creative! ;) )

Thanks for the add. As a Leafs fan who has been on the outside looking in the past few years, Ive taken a shining to being an adopted Sharks fan from April on, they're kinda my west team the last five years or so. It helps now that Campbell is from my hometown, and I know him pretty good. Thornton is from around here too, so you gotta cheer the local boys on.

No problem, thanks for keeping BR up to date on the Sharks' progress this year. They are really ripping right now and its great to see. That's interesting about Marleau/mono, I hadn' t heard that. Makes sense if it's true, but I'm sure he doesn't want to make excuses even if it is. Keep the great updates coming.

welllll..i work with all oilers fans, its tough because they are in the same division, so its only hatred between both teams, but they are 9 points back from the canucks, im not too worried, i just ignore all the razzing i get when the canucks lose to them:)

I always hate when my boys have to play the Sharks, they seem to have it all, team toughness with speed and the ability to make the goalie look like he is fresh out of junior!!

Are you using Internet Explorer, MSN, Firefox?

Our technical team is working hard to try and solve the problem. In the meantime, I would suggest downloading and installing Mozilla Firefox, as that is the most compatible browser with Bleacher Report.
