The Short List facts and information about Brian Conlin

  1. BIG news from Bird Land !!! check my page !

  2. A story on the Pirates coming back to Balmer after 29 years would be worthy fodder eh? I attended 2 outta 3 and it was ... emotional.

    Screw Sister Sledge.

  3. Brian Roberts is another product of Larry Bigbie. Though Roberts admitted to using steroids once, I'm not saying that Cust or Roberts are clean, in fact, I have begun to subscribe to the theory "where there is smoke there is fire" in this circumstance.

The evidence against Gibbons is far more damning, paired with his lack of trade-ability.

"Named in the Mitchell Report, Jack Cust has a similar but less spectacular career than Gibbons and is only two years younger. While Gibbons will play against has-beens and never-will-bes, the Oakland Athletics outfielder plays against the best in the world."

Jack Cust is playing for a team, the A's, who love the base on balls. Cust has a career OBP .148 higher than his BA. He's also making near vet. minimum.

Conversely, Gibbons has hit for an average .011 higher than Cust, but has an OBP .083 lower.

Also, Josh Hamilton was somewhat of an unknown when the Cubs traded for him in the Rule V draft. I knew of him, and was disappointed when they traded him to the Reds. However, I don't doubt that it had something to do with the PR move attached if he had problems during the season.

The fundamental difference between Jack Cust, Sammy Sosa, Brian Roberts, Rick Ankiel, etc and a guy like Jay Gibbons, is strictly economical. The potential succcess of the others can bring a better player in a trade, put more butts in seats, or be first round compensation in free agency.

Once again, like I said, great article.

  4. No problem Brian, keep it up!

  5. Outstanding Oriole coverage ... so depressing over at the Sun.
