I'm a freelance writer, sports fan and insufferable academic originally from the Chicago area (my first word was 'Ditka'), but I've spent the past year in footy-mad Liverpool. Although my main focus for BR is on European football, I have potentially permanently destroyed my circadian rhythm by staying up until unreasonable hours to cheer on any of Chicago's hard-luck teams and my alma mater Missouri Tigers via dodgy Internet streams. I am particularly interested in sports fandom and the cultural and social role of football in Europe.
