Verlander was as close as you can be without making it last year. I would have to think 25 will happen sooner or later, but of course, that's not even close to half way to the record.

Seeing as how no starter, and few relievers even make it on the field 59 times in a season, that record seems pretty safe to me. If a pitcher ever made it half way to 59 it would be regarded as one of the best accomplishments in sport for the last 30-40 years or so. A) reaching 20 wins is a big deal, and B) half of 59 is 29 1/2, so that would be a first as well.
