About

I'm what people would call a seamhead or a stat geek. I have been a member of the Society for American Baseball Researchers (SABR) for more than ten years have studied baseball statistics my whole life. Some of you may have seen my stuff at Fanball, Bloguin, or my current site http://www.hardballchat.com. I mostly write about things sabermetric (use of advanced statistics to analyze players and teams) and the Astros, but I delve into some other stuff too.

If you like my writing please check me out on Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com. I have written four books in total and three about the great game of baseball. The last book "The Hall of Fame Index" was nominated for the Sporting News Award this past year and was the subject of a poster presentation at the last SABR conference. I have a four year old daughter that loves clothes. If you have the Kindle or the Nook it is available in those formats as well.

When I am not talking and thinking baseball I'm usually hanging out with my family, playing golf, and sometimes delving into politics. Unfortunately, politics depresses me. My teams include the Astros, Texans, Rockets, and Horned Frogs (TCU). My wife is from SEC country, so I usually root for LSU out of self-preservation.

You've got to be kidding me by saying Markakis is a terrible defender. He makes every play that you would expect any great outfielder to make. Maybe he isnt as fast as some, but he knows what he is doing. I'm sure you rarely watch Orioles games or even know anything other than Texas sports because I along with almost every other baseball fan in Baltimore most likely can't remember the last time Nick Markakis made a major slip up. The thing I find funny though is how you think Adrian Beltre is the undoubted winner. I think it has something to do with the fact that you write about Texas sports. The other problem with Beltre is that he plays on a team that had 2 great years then miserably choked both times they were in the World Series. Let me guess...Neftali Feliz should win the Cy Young Award unanimously?

hey scott, here is a link to a Royals blog, fan post referencing your Fielding Bible quote on Hosmer and your article... Im not sure if Im to blame for stirring the pot on this topic, but its a good blog and definitely demonstrates the growing level of Royals mania!

Hey, would you be able to send your e mail to klangan@omnipossible.com? I want to get the B/R community leaders on a mailing list for a press release on behalf of Sports Media 101.

    Thanks

Hey there! I should follow baseball more closely than I do.. it used to be my favorite sport, but two decades of the Pirates being the Pirates kinda pushed it off my radar. I live in DC and hit up Natties games a couple times a month.. AND I get up to Boston once or twice a year to see the Sox at Fenway.

Haha.. so I guess I follow it! Definitely prefer hockey and football these days though :)
