Mark's Bio

Born and raised in Toronto, I have been a Leafs fan since birth. I tried to root for other teams, I really did, especially during the dark days of Harold Ballard, but it just didn't work. I always come back to the blue and white. When they finally win the cup I think I will savour it more than anyone. OK, well, probably there are thousands more just like me who will enjoy it just as much. I get a huge kick out of writing articles on the Leafs. Its pretty much making the wait bearable. Just.

  1. How about a series?

    Mat Sundin's Limerick

    Mat Sundin's Haiku

Mat Sundin - The Sci Fi Short Story

Mat Sundin - The Mattress Tag

Sorry, I got carried away, I tend to do that.

Once more, a truly original, creative, and entertaining piece, well done.

  2. Hi Mark,

Further to my last comment- I mentioned Schneider, merely to illustrate the effect good coaching or a good management team can have on a player. I am well aware that he was not involved with the Leafs during the Ferguson years.

  3. Hi Mark,

Thanks for your comments on my comments on Josh's rebuilding article. From my perspective a lot of the problems had to do with dysfunctional trio of Peddie, Ferguson, and Maurice. There was bad chemistry there, and I am not sure who was making the biggest mess. All I can tell you is look at a player like Schneider, what a joke he was in toronto, overall, not an impact player, unmotivated many nights, and then stick him on Detroit, and voila, you have a minor superstar. I believe you will see comeback seasons for both Tucker and McCabe , and Wellwood might surprise as well. Also tell me why the Leaf organization did not get down on their hands and knees when they found out that Bowman was available. I think I know why. Peddie is a meddler and he likes old Cliffy, cause Cliff is an old time buddy and will tolerate him, and even let him meddle. From my perspective the Leafs will live and die on their goaltending, again, ain't we lucky that Toskala's old coach is in town. What can I say Mark, I see a team that makes questionable move, after questionable move and have been doing so since they traded Dick Duff- I know it is a long time ago, but that is the painful truth of it. Short term gain, lack of foresight, revenge motivated deals- Sullivan-on waivers- come on!, and Mcdonald, and Mahovalich to name just three. I love the Leafs, born and raised in T.O. and got em in my blood, but I just don't see the logic most of the time.

  4. Hey Mark,

Thanks for becoming my fan. I appreciate it

  5. Mark,

I don't recall ever saying that Wilson would do a better or worse job if he were hired here. I merely said that this situation in Toronto is nothing like the past scenarios. I personally never thought Maurice was a bad coach (albeit not the best) but there's only so much you can do with the parts that've been present here in Toronto. I think even you can agree it hasn't been much.

I also think that if the hiring of Burke comes to fruition, it'll be a terrible thing for Toronto. If he's as driven by ego as advertised, I smell the late 90's/early 00's Leafs, where money becomes no object and they spend without thinking.

Also, I wouldn't have a problem with Fletcher 'running his plan through' if there was a straight answer on anything coming out of Toronto. First they want a new GM, then they don't, then they're eyeing up a team and then they aren't. All of the sudden, a man who was supposed to be gone come June/July appears to be sticking around for at least the next year, and word is he's become 'closer' with Richard Peddie—which happened with JFJ and we know how that went over.

If this were the actual plan, I would let it run itself through—but the fact is that this whole thing is contributing to one giant game of smoke and mirrors, and it seems as if the corporation is making it look as if they're changing something to improve moral/fan perception of the team, while trying to keep things as "stable" as they were before.
