I'm an aspiring journalist, has-been athlete and outspoken sports junkie who has adopted New York City, though not its teams, as my own. I'm currently pursuing my MA in Magazine Writing from NYU. When I'm not in class or out reporting stories, you can find me in my apartment or at a bar, likely in tears, watching my favorite teams, who are probably losing. I'm also an absolute savage at spades.
I grew up a few minutes away from the nation’s capital, and I'm a huge Washington sports fan. As such, I've had the profound privilege of looking on as athletes came to DC to watch their careers die, to have their careers killed, and to develop as players before joining the Detroit Pistons. I'm now into my 3rd decade of losing, but I've picked up other teams over the years to ease the pain like the Celtics, Rangers, Penguins, and few other teams that always have a chance but ultimately wind up letting me down.
My absolute favorite team, it must be said, is Arsenal FC. I've played soccer all my life and started worshipping the Gunners the day Arsene Wenger brought Thierry Henry to the Highbury from Juventus. As far as I'm concerned, they're the best team in the world, even though they don't play like it.
Sports and writing are my life, which brings us full circle to why we're both here at my bio. Follow me on Twitter @greghoward88. Comment on my work. Love it, hate it, but always take my opinion as fact.
You're welcome.
