Emily's Bio

Hi :) I'm Emily. I'm a 20-year-old junior journalism major at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. I have always loved sports, especially my Pittsburgh teams! My favorite 'Burgh team is the Pirates, even though they break my heart every season. I am a busy college student, with a lot on her plate! I work for my school's newspaper as a features editor; I have been on my school's student government for three years, and I am currently the President Pro-Tempore and a committee chairperson. I also am a statistician for our Division II basketball teams, and I'm active in our campus' dance ensemble. And, when I get some free time, I just like to hang out with my friends and family and my dogs. I am excited to become a part of the Bleacher Report team as an editorial intern, and I'm thankful that I found the site! :) That's about it!

The Short List facts and information about Emily Hartig

Favorite Athletes

Ian Snell, Ryan Malone ;) Ladies, I'm sure you know why!

Favorite Sports Teams

I bleed black and gold...Pittsburgh teams, of course!

All Time Sports Moment

Once, after a rare, but very exciting Buccos' comeback, I started chatting with an old man in Dunkin Donuts later that evening. He told me he had season tickets, and he was bummed that he missed such a great game, and he didn't get his Willie Stargell figurine. So I gave him mine. He was so touched he insisted he had to do something for me in return. The next day, he came to see me at the store where I worked and gave me his tickets for that night. And I got to see another amazing game with a Jack Wilson grand slam. :)

Most Memorable Game Attended

The year after I graduated high school, the football team made a run at the state championship 10 years after Brandon Short had played for the team. I followed the team the whole way, and they finally made it to Hershey for the big dance. However, I didn't get to attend this game. Unfortunately, in my freshman year of college, I had mono. I had to sit in my small dorm room by myself and watch the Tigers roll to victory. Being there or not, I will never forget it.

Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Jumpin' Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak

Ruth or Mays?

the Babe

Unitas or Montana?

Unitas was before my time, so Montana

Pele or Maradona?

Don't follow soccer much, sorry

Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

I'd have to go with the Big East

  1. Hey - thanks for being one of my "fans". I'm looking forward to writing an interactive series about college football each week this season, and I'd love it if you have any input or ideas. My first article's coming Sunday, but I previewed the series here:

    Thanks!

  2. Hey Em, seems our style is close because we're budding journalists, ha ha, Thanks for the edit!

  3. Hi Emily

Thanks for the comments & edits on my article. I thought the format was creative too and I plan to use it every year for the Final Four. Take care,

    Steve

  4. Thanks for the kind words! Always nice to hear that I'm making the editors' jobs easier and not harder! :)

    Thanks again!

    -Sean

  5. Hey, Emily!

Thanks so much for becoming my first and favorite fan!

Hang in there rooting for the Pirates....I am a New York Jets fan and I can empathize with your plight....Something's got to give for us eventually...And, I like to think, it will!

    Keep up the writing....

    Best always!

    Colin

  6. Going for AP style points, I see. :)

I think I'm gonna make a rule that all people who edit my posts have to be my "fans" first. :)

  7. Hey Emily,

    Thanks for the edit.

Just know that the Pats own the Steelers :P

    Haha

  8. Thanks for the edit

  9. Thanks for the feedback. That means a lot coming from someone who's a journalism major at a school like Pitt.

  10. Hey Emily, thanks for the edit on my Sweet Lou article and the advice to break up my graphs more. I guess that this is something you can do with a shorter or average length article, but if I were to write a longer piece, I'm guessing you wouldn't recommend that approach because then it would make it too lengthy?

  11. Sorry about the length and I should have probably cut it down to two parts. Thanks for looking out.

  12. Damn another great edit Emily. Where would my articles be without you. Haha, glad you enjoyed it.

  13. Hi Emily, thanks for the edit on my article, I think maybe there are some British/North American grammatical differences so I've no doubt the article looks better to you guys now! Thanks

  14. Too bad about UNLV. Coach Kruger would probably invite you to a free week in Vegas if they actually made it to the Final Four! Which, by the way, I know you would take full advantage of.

  15. Everybody hates Pittsburgh
