Born and raised in San Francisco: Giants first, 49ers second (and, by association and Joe Montana, a Notre Dame fan), Warriors a distant third. Somehow made the then-California Angels my number two team in the midst of all that (they were a member of the inferior American League, thus not a threat to the Giants--I was so young and naive--and they were not the A's), while also falling for Temple college basketball.
College-d at UC San Diego, where I was mercifully spared from a close-up glimpse of the 49ers' fall from grace. Wore Giants shirts and Angels hats to every Padres and Dodgers game I attended, regardless of opponents. Side note: the 2002 World Series was a terrible experience, where I could not root for my number two team as it ripped out the heart of my number one team.
Lived in New York for a couple of years and worked for Major League Baseball Advanced Media, rooted for west coast teams and against the Red Sox, and adopted the (then) Devil Rays as my east coast team. Started following Arsenal after reading Nick Hornby's amazing Fever Pitch.
Then back to San Diego in time to watch the Warriors get good for a couple of years (we hardly knew ye, Baron and Jax and Young Monta), the 49ers continue to be their own worst enemy (is it too much to ask ownership to fire itself?), and Chargers fans complain that Philip Rivers did not have a good attitude.
Moved back to San Francisco last year and watched the Giants win a World Series. I still cannot type that enough. The Giants. Won. The. World Series. I can die happy.
Thanks for the edits and feedback, Matthew. I appreciate it.
Thanks again. Why do your comments only appear when I use the old editor format? I appreciate your comments and find them helpful.
Thanks for the edits, and I know, what a mistake! I meant to include David Beckham in the article, hence put him at the front, then as I was working my way though the list, it got to 20, I published, and completely forgot about whacking Beckham in there! And now that mistake has been there for seven hours since I've been at work... brilliant. Anyway, again, thanks for the edits.
THanks for the edit Matt
