Jacob's Bio

Born in Chicago, raised in Chicago, live in Chicago.

You can catch more of my work at www.cubiclegm.com and www.chicago.sportsthenandnow.com.

Follow The Cube on Twitter and Facebook.

Been to MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL playoff games in the Windy City. Seen an NBA Finals, World Series, NCAA Basketball National Championship Game and now a Perfect Game in person.

I'm lucky enough to be a season ticket holder for the Bears. You can find me wearing my No. 34 jersey at every home game, whether it's 70 above or 30 below. I love going to games in Bear Weather.

There are over 2,000 people ahead of me on the Cubs season ticket wait list, but I still find a way to get to at least 20 games a year (13-8 in 2009). I cannot think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than sitting in Wrigley Field with an Old Style in hand. If I'm not there, I'll be listening to Pat and Ron on WGN Radio.

I grew up in the era of Jordan, Pippen & Co., so I was a bit spoiled when it came to the Bulls. Ten years after their last title, it's fun to watch Derrick Rose make them relevant again.

I was never a hockey fan until the Hawks games went on TV during the 2007-2008 season. Now I can follow the game, and I love watching the Blackhawks. Everyone needs to go to at least one game in the United Center to hear the Hawks' version of the national anthem.

My dad went to the University of North Carolina, and at eight years old I watched the 1993 team cut down the nets and win a national championship. I've been a fan ever since, and was in attendance for the 2005 Championship Game victory. My mom is a graduate of UCLA, and I also root for the Bruins to be fair to both sides of the family.

Finally, I spent a semester in England during my junior year of college, and was hooked on English Premier League soccer. My buddy took me to a West Ham United game at Upton Park, and I've been a Hammers fan ever since. Come On You Irons!

  1. It definitely is, so no sweat and no big deal, but it looks a bit unusual on the Web since most sites' HTML automatically overlooks consecutive spaces by replacing it with just one. Plus newspapers have always used one space to save room, so it's just kind of how it goes in journalistic writing.

  2. Hey Jacob,

Last week's Fantasy Focus included the All-Underappreciated Team. This week, I announce the All-Overappreciated Team of 2009:

  4. I haven't pimped an article in awhile, but the silence is deafening, so here I go again.

I think that the Strasburg negotiations warrant a look at something that MLB should have adopted a long time ago. I'd like to know if you agree.

  5. Hey Jacob,

Thanks again for the "Don't Group All Cubs Fans" article. That one idiot is giving us all a bad reputation.

Anyways, I'm writing you today because I was lucky enough to check out the Pro Football Hall of Fame last weekend, and as a fan of the game, it was the most incredible experience I've encountered. This encouraged me to share the feeling with the entire B/R community.

If you get the chance, please check it out. It's why I believe every football fan should visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Let me know what you think.

  9. Well, here I go again. I'm now taking on a subject that is not commonly discussed among men in sports, namely gay bashing. Similar to my article on racism, I'm sure this will generate some debate, so feel free to join in the fray.
