About Michael »

I am a Senior at the University of Vermont, Catamount country. I recently joined the school newspaper to write for the sports section and am thrilled to put my writing skills- gained from many philosophy/political science/environmental papers- to a more exciting use. I grew up in a houshold where it was unacceptable to be anything other than a Yankees fan and am proud to say that my children, if I have children, will also grow up in such an environment. I absolutely love Ken Griffey Jr and hope that people can put aside his unfortunate injury troubles from over the years and rightfully regard him as one of the best to ever play the game. I avidly play softball in the sumertime, and otherwise when I get the chance I like to get out and enjoy the landscape of Vermont, particularly its mountains, by means of hiking or skiing.

The Shortlist »

  • Favorite Sports Teams

New York Yankees, San Fransisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills, Ottawa Senators, Connecticut Huskies, Vermont Catamounts

  • Favorite Coaches

  • All Time Sports Moment

Man it was so cool watching Charlie Hays jump up and down after catching the final out of the '96 WS... the first Yankee WS I watched

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

The year was 1999: Chuck Knoblauch and Derek Jeter going back-to-back to lead off the game in Fenway (we were sitting in the third row, first base side). The Yankees won that game 13-3, and eventually went on to win the WS in four against the Braves. I also purchased a Griffey Jr. All-Star hat (the ASG was at Fenway that year, too) and proceeded to wear it for about five years straight.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

815 games started (511 of them wins) by Cy Young... there's a reason MLB has an award named after him.
