You make some solid observations. However, I disagree about Adrian Beltre and Derek Jeter.
I've never read or heard a negative thing about Beltre. He wants to succeed (solid stats) and he wants to help his team win. Teammates and fans alike loved Adrian when he was a Mariner. Not wanting your head rubbed or slapped for good luck doesn't make a guy selfish.
Any team in the leage would take Jeter in a heartbeat. Jeter is the ultimate team captain. He is the epitome of consistency with defense and offense.
However, you failed to mention (gulp!) Ichiro. Yes, good old slap-happy-hitting Ichiro is in the top five of most selfish MLB players. MEchiro has batted lead off since 2001. He's more obsessed with getting a 200-hit season than taking pitches for his fellow hitters in the lineup or trying to get a walk.
Sincerely -- M's Diehard
