Derek's Bio
Hello I'm Derek. That's me on the far right. I'm 26 years old. I currently live in Indianapolis, IN, but I am originally from Normal, IL (home of Illinois State University and State Farm corporate headquarters).
You will find that I am writing strictly about mixed martial arts now. That is where my passion lies and where I have found my niche. I welcome all feedback regarding my articles whether it be positive or negative. Feel free to post on my articles, bulletin board, or e-mail me at dbeastbo@yahoo.com.

Active - Albert Pujols, Steve Nash, Dan Henderson, BJ Penn, Rich Franklin, Tony Stewart, etc... Retired - Joe Montana, Michael Jordan, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, etc...
Favorite Sports Teams
St. Louis Cardinals, University of Illinois Football and Basketball, Chicago Bears, and Chicago Bulls.
All Time Sports Moment
Al Michaels call at the end of the 1980 Olympic hockey game between the United States and the heavily favored Russian squad.
Most Memorable Game Attended
Pretty much all the games I have been to have not been that memorable. The 2006 Indianapolis 500 where Sam Hornish Jr. passed Marco Andretti on the final turn and won by 0.0635 seconds is probably my favorite.
Most Unbreakable Sports Record
It would be easy to say that Cy Young's career complete games, career wins, career innings pitched, or career games started records will never be broken. If a pitcher had a long enough career he could do it, but the game is very different now and you can't really draw a comparison. I believe the hardest record in sports to break is Joe DiMaggio's 56-Game hit streak in 1941. Right behind him is Johnny Vander Meer's back-to-back no-hitters in 1938.

Ok, so the next group article is "Lesnar vs Couture: Who Wins and Why" (title isn't set). I'd much appreciate it if we could get your opinion for this one. As for length, check out past group articles done by Bryan and Ryan, but don't worry too much about guidelines. Just looking for a paragraph or longer. /end generic message

Derek, I think your article idea is awesome. I originally came up with the idea for these group articles just to kinda keep everybody involved when they are not actually writing articles. Not everybody writes an article everyday and I thought this was a way to rotate reads and comments for everyone.
I just try to come up with the idea and then I give it to one of the guys and let them run with it. We are on the third one I think, and your idea will def be one of the ones we use soon.

Derek,
I actually plan to write a full fight prediction and preview once the fight is a little bit closer on the horizon. Here are my thoughts on this matchup. I think that Manny will be extremely fast and hard for De La Hoya to hit, and may box circles around De La Hoya and make him look silly. I think he may win the first five or six rounds with no contest. I do think that at some point De La Hoya is gonna land something really hard, such as a counter left hook, that may change the complexion of the fight entirely.
So to answer your question, I kinda expect this fight to go like the fight between De La Hoya and Hopkins went. De La Hoya boxed well early and won many rounds, and Bernard caught him late. I expect a late ko for De La Hoya, but I would not be surprised if Manny won.

Hey Derek I was just wondering if you could edit my new article on Cro Cop and Overeem.
If you could that'd be great, thanks!

Your seats should be good for a view of the cage, as far as seeing fighters i dunno. We were on the floor and had good seats. It should be fun! i'm still trying to get tickets but it's 50/50.

So it looks like Stevenson might be fighting Florian at UFC 91... I have to say I'm a little less than interested. Stevenson did not impress me vs Tibau. Hopefully this means that the winner of a fight between these two will still have one more win to go before a title shot.

A little birdy just let me know Wandy/Rampage for 91, you hear anything?

Well, first be prepared for a crazy crowd. I don't know how you like crowds, if you don't like them I would suggest self medicating. Personally I had a bunch of fun with it and made friends with everyone around me and it was kind of like being at Lambeau. I didn't drink much so I wouldn't have to leave my seats since I didn't want to miss anything. Also get the best tickets you can comfortably afford. If you are okay eating Ramen and mac&cheese for two weeks to get better seats I would. The bottom line is go in knowing you're going to have a blast and you will.

War Lesnar! If you saw the PPV the big muscular guy with the silvery Goatee that did the pre fight check ins was a friend of mine and the guy that puts on the local shows here in MN. I promise you will have a great time at 90, it was fantastic. I'm sure I'll see a piece on Topgun from you soon.

Also, Sanchez v. Alves and of course silva v. Cote all set to happen in chi town.
Also, Wandy and Shogun set to fight on the same card if not against each other in December.

Yeah I asked you because Wandy's next opponent seems to be so hard to find. I'd say Sok if he wasn't already scheduled to fight Cane. Goran is probably the guy who makes the most sense -- I think I came to the same conclusion as you when I was thinking about this. Good point about Cro Cop.
