Derek's Bio

Hello I'm Derek. That's me on the far right. I'm 26 years old. I currently live in Indianapolis, IN, but I am originally from Normal, IL (home of Illinois State University and State Farm corporate headquarters).

You will find that I am writing strictly about mixed martial arts now. That is where my passion lies and where I have found my niche. I welcome all feedback regarding my articles whether it be positive or negative. Feel free to post on my articles, bulletin board, or e-mail me at dbeastbo@yahoo.com.

The Short List facts and information about Derek Bolender

Favorite Athletes

Active - Albert Pujols, Steve Nash, Dan Henderson, BJ Penn, Rich Franklin, Tony Stewart, etc... Retired - Joe Montana, Michael Jordan, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, etc...

Favorite Sports Teams

St. Louis Cardinals, University of Illinois Football and Basketball, Chicago Bears, and Chicago Bulls.

All Time Sports Moment

Al Michaels call at the end of the 1980 Olympic hockey game between the United States and the heavily favored Russian squad.

Most Memorable Game Attended

Pretty much all the games I have been to have not been that memorable. The 2006 Indianapolis 500 where Sam Hornish Jr. passed Marco Andretti on the final turn and won by 0.0635 seconds is probably my favorite.

Most Unbreakable Sports Record

It would be easy to say that Cy Young's career complete games, career wins, career innings pitched, or career games started records will never be broken. If a pitcher had a long enough career he could do it, but the game is very different now and you can't really draw a comparison. I believe the hardest record in sports to break is Joe DiMaggio's 56-Game hit streak in 1941. Right behind him is Johnny Vander Meer's back-to-back no-hitters in 1938.

Ruth or Mays?

Ruth

Unitas or Montana?

Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

  1. Derek,

not sure if you can due to your writing restrictions, but I am gonna ask anyways. Im putting together a piece called "Fedor or Anderson Silva, who is #1 pound for pound" and I would like to get the top MMA writers on bleacher to weigh in with a paragraph or so. I would compile it, add my opinion, and hopefully spark some lively debate. lemme know if you can do it, and even if not, any ideas or help you can give will be appreciated.

    thanks,

    bryan trafford

  2. Have you had a Hawaiian pizza at/from Grady's? Also when I worked at Bromenn we got free pies that hadn't sold from Baker's square on occassions. They were great.

  3. I to work at a hospital in the ISU area. What do you miss most about the Blm-normal iowns? I miss Tobins, the Grand Cafe, Bogarts, mother Murphys and the Jewel stores.

  4. Hey i don't know you but you are one of the MMA community leaders. I do enjoy writing and i was suggested to by a friend to start writing "columns." This place seems like a place to start. I contacted you just to see if you could give me some advice before i make a fool out of myself.

  5. Lesnar will destroy Herring in spectacular fashion. I still think that he got hosed during the Mir fight. The stepped in and thats what saved Mir, if that wouldn't have happened Lesnar would have pounded out Mir. Lesnars wrestling is just too good, anyone that doesn't have a top tier wrestling background is going to be on their back with Lesnar pounding the snot out of them. I really liked what I saw from Valesquez, great wrestling and control, great team, he's gonna be a beast. Lesnar will get past Herring and then maybe a rematch with Mir or maybe Werdum, Kongo, or even Valesquez.

  6. I will in fact be at UFC 87! I've had to pick up your slack and write a Dream article 'cause nobody else is going to. Alves vs. Sanchez for sure. Maybe Werdum? Bonnar for sure. Who knows what they are gonna do with Penn. I'd like to see Wiman vs. Maynard. Quarry vs. Marquardt/Leites? Maybe Shogun will be healthy? if so maybe a Rua vs. Jardine?

  8. Lyoto Machida vs Thiago Silva at UFC 89! It's official!

  9. Hey Derek! I liked your piece on Vera. You didn't "borrow" the title from my Nokaut article did you? :)

Check out the article I wrote last week about Arlovski: http://www.nokaut.com/index.php?id=12&solo_news=1851&lang=e&title=Will+the+Real+%22Pitbull%22+Please+Show+Up%3F

I was going to publish that article here sometime this week. Just so you know, I wrote it for Nokaut last Friday, on the 11. What a coincidence, eh? I guess both Arlovski and Vera need to return to their previous form once again.

Great MMA minds do think alike!

  10. Did you hear Rogan say that Eastman's cut looked like a goat vagina during the Kos/lyttle fight? Rogan was smoking the good stuff!

  11. I took quite a nosedive in these rankings. Some guys with one article are in the top 20. Give me a break.

  12. Alves is going to beat Sanchez then they almost Have to give him a shot at the strap. Kos has gotten lost in the shuffle but if he beats Lytle he has to be in the mix. I don't understand why Sanchez gets a shot at Alves. I'm really stoked to see what Aoki can do at the Grand Prix. That gogo from mount was sick, I've never seen it in a mma match, Aoki pulled in a grappling match once but it was still impressive. Hope all is going well for ya. Peace.

  13. My play by play said you left a note but no note. If it was important could you repost?

  14. Yeah what he said. :P

Thanks for letting us know and I'll be sure to check the sight out.

  15. All the best to you brother. I'm bummed that we're going to not see as much of you, but do your thing! I'll be sure to check it out. Does this mean you are stepping down as a community Leader? If you ever need anything let me know. Take care.
