About

I am a child of the 80s born on a monastery and raised by hippies. I am a cynical contrarian and think the Garcia/Grisman collaborations in the late 60s and early 70s were the greatest projects in musical history behind the Coltrane/M.Davis collabs. Thelonius Monk never took drugs but was plain absurd brilliance and I have stood in the nut-house room where Charlie Parker finished his life. Paul Simon is 2nd greatest musical poet of all-time behind the great Bob Dylan (prefer "Blood on the Tracks). World traveler and respector of universal freedoms, and a leftist by nature, the paradigm of American politics disdains the free choice of the 1st Amendment. Sports are a metaphor for growing pains; learning every star must fall at some point and mull into the great collective fade of memory. My greatest moments are listening to Jazz with friends, sipping whiskey or 15 yr scotch, writing poems, arguing politics, debating greatest athletes, and then penning all the hectic fray of my idealistic personality. I think Jesus was a rag tag hippie and if correctly understood, hated religion. The Beatles were his greatest messengers with hits like "All you Need is Love." And yes, the Dhali Lama gets in too.

Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

His Airness, Larry Legend, Torii Hunter, Wally Joyner, Chuck Finley, Adam Kennedy, Ron Gant, Tim Hudson, Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge, Jimmer, Random Past College Basketball Greats like Bryce Drew or Juan Dixon

  • Favorite Sports Teams

    California (stubborn I know) Angels

  • Favorite Coaches

Bobby Cox, Ben Howland, Jim Boeheim

  • All-Time Sports Moment

Speizio's 7th inning homerun in game six of the 2002 MLB World Series, MJ's flu game

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

1997 game between the L.A. Lakers and Utah Jazz. Shaq hit a game winner and my dad and I could be seen on national television bouncing around like two adolescents.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Richard Petty's NASCAR win's mark, and Cy Young's MLB win's mark.

  • Ruth or Mays?

Ruth because of the mere fact he has taken on mythical, legendary status. Mays is the greatest all-around baseball player of all-time, with Clemente a close 2nd, and 90's Griffey a close 3rd.

  • Unitas or Montana?

Montana because he was the foreshadowing for the great Tom Brady.

  • Jordan or Russell?

His airness. Though I respect Russell and think he is undervalued because he was defensively minded , I take MJ because he was the first black athlete to transcend the game with endorsement contracts, and has he not retired he'd have won eight straight in the 90's.

  • Gretzky or Orr?

Gretzky because I remember him more than I do Orr.

  • Pele or Maradona?

Pele. Pele is one of the top ten athletes of all-time.

  • Federer or Sampras?

Is this really a question? Federer has crushed Sampras' records and done it with arugably more dominance.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger is the greatest golfer this league has ever seen. No athlete in world history has had the microscope so pin pointed on himself. A bad year for Tiger is finishing top five consistently and raking well over a million dollar in win moneys.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Petty is the greatest NASCAR driver of all-time. Though I respect the value on Earnhardt's name (he was the rockstar), I think he was a tad overrated and think Jeff Gordon is a greater driver than he ever was.

  • Schumacher or Senna?

    Toss up.

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

Big East in College Basketball--deepest from top down, Big 12 in College Football--who can beat games between OKL and Texas?

Hey, would you be able to send your e mail to klangan@omnipossible.com? I want to get the B/R community leaders on a mailing list for a press release on behalf of Sports Media 101.

    Thanks
