SEC Picks Week Nine: Will UGA Upset The Gators In The WLOCP?
10/30/2009
A lot has happened since I last entered the Bleacher Report arena. Because of these events I, like the great Brett Favre, have also considered retirement. But the closer it gets to football season, the stronger the itch becomes to return to what was a great run among BabyTate's "Losers" and the weekly edition of my SEC Football Outlook articles.
Just to let everyone know that I am still alive, and how alive I really am, I'll briefly recap the events that have unfolded in my life during the past 6 months.
First, my wife and I purchased our first home. It was a long grueling process, but our prayers were answered after two months of negotiations.
The day we moved in, June 12, was also another big day for us. You see we had been praying about and working toward something else for such a long time: becoming foster parents.
The area in which we live, as well as the school where my wife works, has opened our eyes to the need of foster parents in our community. We made the decision to help children who for many obvious reasons could not help themselves. We also decided that if we were going to take on such a great responsibility that we would want to do so before we had children of our own.
So the process began during the spring. After ten weeks of parenting classes, which are required by the state, we finished the classes the same day we closed on our house, June 9. Three days later things were in order for us to move into our home, but another big responsibility came when the local DHR called and asked if we could provide a home for two foster children.
This wasn't our ideal situation, especially our first night in the new house, but we feel like God was working things out so we could do what we had been praying about: helping others.
The boy is four and the girl is 20 months. They have provided such a huge blessing to us. And as you can imagine, this, along with working a full-time job, a part-time job, taking graduate classes, and trying to fulfill my duties as a husband, has loaded me down. It goes without saying, but this has taken precedence over my passion for writing sports articles.
With football season right around the corner my other passion will begin as well: officiating high school football games. So, after taking all of this into consideration I have made the decision to come back from retirement from BR to make a name for myself again in the college football community.
I'm not making any promises. All I will do is try to write and comment on a regular basis. If I miss a few days, or even a week, please know that I am just working on more important things, but this community at BR is always in the back of my mind somewhere.
Now, this may have been far more than you may have wanted to know, but I just needed to explain myself.
BTW - BR has really changed in the past six months. This is going to be fun learning how to write, navigate, and work through BR again.
Wow, what a bio. I think you should have made it into an article, it would have been the POTD.
Congratulations on becoming parents, being home owners, and a hearty thank you for returning to give us some of your time.
Please tell your wife that I am very grateful to her for sharing you with us for a short while each week.
Bless Your Pea-Pickin' Heart...........wait, he was from Tennessee............Rammer Jammer
