Ray's Bio
Hi, my name is Ray.
I’m 20 years old, and currently go to Northern Illinois University as an English Major (hold for applause).
A little about me:
I’ve always loved sports, particularly football and hockey, although I was a little thin to play either one. Of course, that didn’t stop Dad from encouraging me to try. Thanks, Dad! (I know you read this.)
I was always able to write too, and had some success writing in high-school and my early college years.
I found bleacher report by pure accident. I was looking for places to start a sports blog and “The Open Source Sporting Network” popped onto my screen.
30 some articles, consistent appearances on Fox and CBS, enough front page time to warrant being noticed, an editing internship, a wild ride later, and here I am. I’m so happy to have found this site, and to have met some really cool people along the way.
Sports are business, and we have to remember that when we evaluate players, teams, management and what they do. They’re also an escape from reality. And as fun as they are to write about, we need to keep what they are and what they mean in perspective.
Now that I’m an editing intern I think I have some sort of status, or something. Anyway, if you’d like me to look at an article after, or before, publication…I’d be more than happy to do so. Understand something: when I change things it is because they needed to be changed to be stylistically and grammatically correct. Here are some things you should just not do to save everyone time:
Write words IN ALL CAPS
Use more than one exclamation point!!!!!!!
Begin sentences with clauses (Well, So, etc)
Limit your ellipses...to three dots as so.
When I’m not reading, editing, or writing about sports, I enjoy: Poker, Law & Order (before it went down the toilet), Rocky & Bullwinkle, Jazz, hanging out with my friends, working on my book (I do have a writing existence outside of B/R), The Mark Levin Radio Program, and having a strange affection for Daniela Bianchi before she got really old and wrinkly.
I don’t really care if I ever write about sports for a living. It’d be cool if I did, but I can’t foresee myself being crushed if I didn’t.
