Robert Lipsyte, a former sports and city columnist of the New York Times, is an op-ed contributor to USA Today and the Jock Culture Correspondent for Tomdispatch.Com. He is the author of 16 books including his new memoir, "An Accidental Sportswriter."

Lipsyte was a correspondent for "CBS Sunday Morning" and for "The NBC Nightly News." In 1990, he received an Emmy as host of "The Eleventh Hour," a nightly PBS public affairs show on WNET in New York. He won Columbia University’s Mike Berger Award for distinguished reporting in 1966 and 1996, and in 1992 was runner-up for the Pulitzer Prize in commentary.

His books also include Dick Gregory’s autobiography, "Nigger," and "SportsWorld: An American Dreamland." In 2001 he won the American Library Association’s Margaret A. Edwards Award for lifetime achievement in Young Adult literature. His YA novels include "The Contender," "One Fat Summer" and "Center Field."

    Robert, as a yankee fan since 1950 it makes me sick to my stomach to watch the fiasco that is happening with them concerning Jeter. They do not need a manager if they are going to let has-been players run the team. As a retired coach of 35 years i always used the yankees as the example for my teams. Today it shames me to say that they are putting Jeter and Posada above winning and the rest of the players know it, as well as all the true die-hard fans who live and die with this team.
