Matt's Bio

Hailing from the small Northwestern Ontario home of Chris Pronger in Dryden, I have been obsessed with the game of hockey since I was about seven years old. A hard-core Montreal Canadiens fan, I have followed the team since seeing the Canadiens 1993 Stanley Cup victory with my dad, a big reason I'm a Habs fan.

Currently, I am studying at the University of Manitoba in the Faculty of Kinesiology & Recreation Management with the goal of graduating with a Bachelor of Physical Education. I also graduated from Providence College (in Manitoba) with a Bachelor of Arts in Education Studies. Journalism is a secret passion for me, one I almost made my career.

If you have any questions or comments to leave, either about the Montreal Canadiens, feel free to post a comment on either my board, Miah D's profile, or Daniel Arouchain's profile, two other Montreal Canadiens Community Leaders here on BR.

I co-host "Habs All Out Radio", a talk show all about the Montreal Canadiens along with Miah. You can visit the Habs All Out official website at http://habsallout.webs.com.

I am also the Community Leader for the Canadian Football League. If you have any questions or comments about the CFL and its section here at BR, post a comment on my board or Chris Allen's board, my fellow CFL Community Leader on BR.

Recently, my article "Kaptain Kovalev Named Eastern Conference Captain; Thornton Named West Captain" was featured on cbssports.com.

Thanks for writing! And Go Habs Go!

  1. Hey,

NHL Free Agency was crazy yesterday, and I'm personally baffled with all the moves. Here's my attempt to sort out my brain...lol.

    Here's the goalie wrap-up:

  3. Greetings baseball fans and friends!

I present a slide show of events from June 15th, when the Dodgers held an event which allows fans to come onto the field to hit, pitch, and field. There are some behind the scenes shots as well.

  8. Thanks for reading and commenting on my article, Matt. It will be interesting to see what Jim Balsillie does should he get turned down a third time which I think will happen despite what the American courts say. More anonymous sources seem to indicate that the NHL would rather lose money than accept Balsillie bailing them out of a tight spot. But unlike the NHL, the CFL would welcome him and his capital wherever he wanted to set up shop and of the three best places to expand the league, London would probably the best choice for him, though Quebec would be the best choice of all. But they can't seem to find an investor for either a new arena or a stadium.
Actually, right now, the only non-CFL city that is taking steps that might bring them a franchise is Moncton, N.B. which is building a stadium that is close to CFL size. Any Canadian city that builds a proper stadium immediately moves to the head of the line for an expansion team, no matter what size the city is. Moncton has a population of only approx. 130,000 so a new franchise would have to be a regional one like Saskatchewan.
The other CFL expansion news is that an ex-NFL player would like to see the CFL expand to the United States again, since NFL Europe ended, with teams in Rochester or Detroit. I don't think it will happen but I wrote a fantasy article about the league expanding to 16 teams, with 7 new American franchises. My only choice from the old CFL American expansion would be to bring back the Baltimore Stallions.

  9. Hey Matt,

Just thought I would check in with you to let you know about some new alignment to the NHL Community Leaders.

As you know, Alan Bass, Bryan Thiel, and myself are the current Co-Community Leaders of the NHL section of this page. In order to make things a little easier for everyone, and to allow more focus on specific areas, the three of us have had our duties divided, along with Ken Armer.

Although we are still free to peruse every part of the NHL section, and are of course free to help anyone that needs it, my new designated Community Leader area is the Northeast division, which of course includes your Montreal Canadiens.

Basically it doesn't really change anything on your end. If you do have any questions or whatever, I will be your guy to go to. Of course if you feel more comfortable talking to Alan, Bryan, or Ken, by all means don't hesitate.

Anyways, I thought I would send you a little note to let you know about the new alignments of the CL's. As the guy who oversees the Northeast Division, I look forward to working with you in the future.

    Keep up the good work.

    --Derek

  10. Hey Matt,

Hockey Hall of Famer Scott Stevens' career ended kind of awkwardly. In January of 2004 he missed a few games with the flu and then was diagonsed with Post-Concussion-Syndrome and missed the rest of the season. He would never play again as a lockout wiped out the following season and then his official retirement in September of 2005. Truly one of the greats and my favorite athlete of all-time, I don't feel I have ever honored him the way he earned and I really hope I did it with this article- http://bleacherreport.com/articles/172153-scott-stevens-forever-beloved-forever-hated-and-forever-remembered

Let me know what you think if you get a chance, if not no worries.
