I'm Bryan Manning, lifelong NFL, MLB, NBA, NCAA football and basketball fan. As it pertains to college athletics, I have an affinity for all things ACC.
I joined Bleacher Report in February 2011 with the hope I could continue my dream of being a sportswriter.
For my day job, I work in the engineering department of a major telecommunications company.
You can reach me at email@example.com, on twitter @bdmanning4.
You're welcome, Bryan! Keep up the great VT coverage.
You're welcome, Bryan!
Keep it up man good articles. Glad to see you're a Braves, Skins and Tech fan.
You're welcome, Bryan! Keep up the good work.
Funny you mention "placement." I complained to my editor that the assignment he gave me (the "Odds" story) never got placement because of a zillion "Why Duke/North Carolina will win the ACC Tourney" stories. Somehow it got 800+ reads, but I never saw it placed. I am "on trial" as an "FC", but during the trial still get placed as a "contributor." You've got a pretty good average number per read. Have they ever contacted you about becoming an "FC?" Goodness knows you write better and more intelligently than anyone I've noticed.
As for Gottfried, I'm surprised. That's not usually his style. On the one hand, I don't blame him for lobbying ala Seth G. (although it's never worked for him!), but I'm surprised he'd pick on his next opponent. I guess he's confident of a different result tomorrow. I expect UVA to do a much better job on the boards than the first time. On the other hand, Brogdon played a big part in the first win. I just want it to be a battle of wills and not attrition.
Actually, Bryan, I'm not sure what the heck I'm doing on B/R! "Having fun" I guess would be the answer for now. The format doesn't really fit my style of writing, but I'm adjusting as I go (the C-ville site is more like what I like to do). Went to franchiseqb. You're getting double-duty out of your efforts! (Again, I use C-ville differently. With the exception of "Sammy needs a guy..." I've tried to not duplicate the two.)
Taking a break from my assignment for the coming AM, which was "Why UVA Will Shock The World and Win the ACC Tourney". When I was given it 10 days ago I said it wouldn't be a "shock" (anticipating Sene's and Brogdon's returns). Now, it'd be nothing short of a miracle. They're a remarkably resilient bunch, but this is a bit much to ask.
Appreciate the reciprocity of "fandom." I have to tell you, YOU are the first writer I have "fanned" since I joined B/R in December. But you're also the first writer I've found who writes well AND knowledgeably on varied subjects.
So, 20 minutes from Blacksburg (and still allowed to root for UVA)? I have a very good friend from Christiansburg here in Cville (speaking of Cville, I also do a blog on UVA hoops at the C-ville Weekly, the largest weekly alternative here -- with the exception of the "Sammy needs a guy..." article, I've tried to keep them quite different from B/R efforts -- it's called "Cavalier Roundball Roundup" at www.c-ville.com). Is C'burg the right direction?
Well, back to the ACC article. It's the first of my six assignments in the next 10 days in my "trial" as a "Featured Columnist." Have you looked into that?
With your clean style and solid knowledge you'd fit well. A LOT of the "FCs" I've read couldn't pass an 8th Grade Composition class (nor do they know of what they write)!
Catch ya along the way.
Wow, went through your profile and AGAIN, two things(!): 1) Your the first profile I've looked at that answered the first seven "Short List" questions the same as me (keen minds think alike), and 2) I've NEVER seen ANYONE who listed both Virginia Tech AND Virginia among their favorite teams! Only tells me you didn't go to either and probably didn't grow up in Virginia!
Bryan, it is unfortunate that the phrase "well spoken" is often considered racist when used in reference to blacks. I certainly do not feel that there was ill intent in your reference to Shaka Smart. I have come to believe that some readers are so bent on posting negative comments that they fail to digest the content of the article.
By the way, I have a both a strong personal interest in VCU and a lifetime committment to NC State. I hope and feel that Shaka stays with VCU next season.
