Domenic's Bio

I am a sports fanatic, as I would imagine most of you who are reading this are. I follow everything religiously and have for as long as I can remember.

I grew up in Northern Virginia where I went to high school. After graduating, I headed north to Connecticut where I attended Quinnipiac University in Hamden and where it is cold as hell. I know, I know, sounds weird, in fact, you probably can't even tell how it sounds, its pronounced Quinn-e-p-ACK. It's a small private school outside of New Haven, it's right near Yale...it's not Yale, but it's near there. I graduated in '06 with a degree in Mass Communications concentrating in Broadcast Journalism. While in school I was lucky enough to experience a fraction of the wonderful world of sports journalism.

In between my sophomore and junior year I interned for the sports department at WRC-TV channel 4 in Washington DC, the NBC affiliate. I worked for the George Michael Sports Machine, some of you may know it. It's a nationally broadcast sports highlights show which airs on NBC every Sunday night, or used to, unfortunately I believe it will being coming off-air very soon. At NBC I was lucky enough to attend some Washington Redskins practices and DC United games.

My senior year was by far the busiest and most enjoyable part of my life to this point. At the beginning of the year I was able to land an internship working with ESPN at their headquarters in Bristol, in their International Department, specifically soccer. All the while continuing my work with Q30 and WQAQ which I started my sophomore year. The internship was priceless. It was an incredible experience one from which I learned a great deal. My work there basically consisted of helping broadcast European league and International soccer. I'll tell you watching Barcelona games and eating chinese food with Marcelo Balboa is just as exciting as it sounds. I then landed an internship back home, this time with WTTG-TV channel 5, the local FOX affiliate. Again, it was in the sports department. It was just as much fun as the others if not more. This time the Redskins were making a Playoff run during my time there and I was able to be right in the middle of it, attending practices and helping out in any way possible. When it was over and I headed back to school I found out the weekly two-hour radio show I had been co-hosting and producing with my friend Robert Guerrera, who is currently working with ESPN radio, had won a "Best Show" award. Now we are podcasting First and Forever weekly on our website http://sportscaster.podbean.com Check it out!

By the time I graduated things had come together really well. I have three major internships under my belt and priceless experience in the some of the country's most competitive environments. I am currently the Coordinator for the PGA TOUR network on Sirius XM Radio.

  1. Hey, don't get me wrong Domenic -- I thought you wrote a great article and I gave it 5 stars ... didn't want you to think I was hating on you or anything. I guess I just have a different perspective on Hansbrough seeing the world through my baby blue-colored glasses. ;) I definitely thought he deserved the Player of the Year award, but I agree that the intangibles are what put him over the top. And actually, the media man-crush on him can get a bit annoying at times, so I understand your perspective. I do think he'll go down as one of the great college players ever -- maybe even top 3 ever in the ACC (keep in mind MJ was very good but not a superstar in college); some will say best ever in the ACC. Probably a bench-warmer in the NBA though -- I think he'd make a great coach one day. Thanks for the article!
