About

My name is Matt Wolfson, and I'm currently a junior at St. John's University. My major is journalism, and I want to pursue a career in sports journalism.

Becoming an editor at Bleacher Report has given me the unique opportunity to see what good journalism looks like, while also trying to improve it. This site has helped revive my faith in sports fans; and it feels good knowing that I'm not the only one with an inexplicable passion for my favorite teams and athletes.

If you'd like to become a fan of me, you should probably know that I also enjoy long walks on the beach, and fine dining by candlelight. Just thought you should keep that in mind.

Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

Derek Jeter, Amar'e Stoudemire, Adrian Peterson, Ron Artest, and NBA star turned DJ- Rony Seikaly

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Yankees, Knicks, and Vikings. One of these teams doesn't fit, I know. The Yankees really are the only one of the three worth watching.

  • Favorite Coaches

I like the idea of Yogi being a manager. He always seems like a good time, even if your team sucks. Also, Joe Torre and Jeff Van Gundy were the coaches of my childhood. I like them. Now, Girardi is doing a pretty impressive job with the Yanks while D'Antoni is trying his best to make the Knicks a contender. It's also worth mentioning that Steve Lavin is making the Johnnies a force again with minimal roster changes from last year.

  • All Time Sports Moment

Aside from Michael's dunk at the end of Space Jam? Probably Aaron Boone's homer in Game 7 of the ALCS off Wakefield in the 11th inning. 13-year-old Matt had never been happier.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

Opening day of the inaugural season of the new Yankee Stadium. I've heard a lot of negativity from people about it, but that place is just magical if you ask me.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Johnny Vander Meer's no-hitters in consecutive starts in 1938. Yeah, I don't know who he is either, but when I heard that stat it seemed unbreakable. A pitcher would have to throw 3 of them in a row to break that. I'm not questioning your math skills, but it seems more ridiculous when you look at it in a sentence.

  • Ruth or Mays?

Ruth is the greatest baseball player to ever live. He had a career 1.164 OPS- a stat that he was reportedly very proud of.

  • Unitas or Montana?

"Winners, I am convinced, imagine their dreams first. They want it with all their heart and expect it to come true. There is, I believe, no other way to live." Joe Montana once said. Yes, it is an extremely generic quote. But yes, he is the best quarterback ever.

  • Jordan or Russell?

For a second I thought the "Russell" in question was Bryon. Jordan definitely had it over Byron Russell. That famous picture is my desktop background. What Bill Russell did for basketball is unmatched, but much like the Unitas vs. Montana question, it is a pioneer vs. the greatest of all time.

  • Gretzky or Orr?

I've gotten pretty good at pretending I know things about hockey. Gretzky seems like the safe pick here to keep that up.

  • Pele or Maradona?

My knowledge of soccer is just about enough to get me through a game of FIFA. I'll take Maradona if only for his entertaining life of retirement.

  • Federer or Sampras?

I saw these two play an exhibition at The Garden. Both are increbile, but by the number of accomplishments, Federer is the best ever. It's also worth noting that Agassi played at their level under much tougher conditions. If you can stay standing on a tennis court while on meth and a with a wig on your head, that's already impressive. And he was one of the best players ever! What a feat.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

A lot of these questions seem to favor the guy that played during my lifetime, so I'll keep it going and pick Tiger. I don't know how you could cheat on Elin, but that's a different story. Once he gets his head back on he'll be winning majors again left and right.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Had to go to Google for this one. Petty, I guess? Neither was the captian of their Varsity NASCAR team, so both careers are that much more impressive.

  • Schumacher or Senna?

    What?

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

My bias tells me to choose the Big East, so I'll do that. How could you go against the conference that produced the legendary Sleepy Floyd?
