I am the Mom of a Canadian Parlympic athlete who is now in Beijing, preparing for the Paralympic competitions which start in September. I hope to drum up awareness of the absolutely fabulous group of athletes that come together, just as the able-bodied Olympic atlhletes do, to test their abilities and put it all on the line in front of the world to see. But that's just the problem, How many of us actually get to SEE these athletes? How much media coverage do they actually get. In proportiion to the number of medals they bring home, they outdo the able-bodied Olympics hands down. So why are we not going to have all of their sports and games covered on national television and have their bios published, and articles written about them before the competition starts, just as was done for the Olympians who have just competed?
I welcome any comments and support possible.
