Mike's Bio
My interest in hockey started before I was really capable of remembering much of anything. Unfortunately, my family didn't have the funds to put me through the sport, so I glued myself to the television and watched the Oilers on Hockey Night in Canada.
But what really hooked me is when we were standing outside the Oilers dressing room, and as Kelly Buchberger was taking the ice, he turned to me and said, "Hey, kid, touch my stick."
I think I was all of five or six years old.
Unable to play the sport professionally, I started out by pursuing a BA in English at the University of Alberta, initially with the intent of becoming a professor of contemporary British literature. Along the way, my passion for writing and sports melded, and I sent off a resume to the St. Albert Gazette for a freelance sports gig. I got it, and I'm still covering the bantam AAA, midget AAA and junior B teams for the paper. Not long after I grabbed the gig with the Gazette, I got wind that the Canadian Press was looking for a writer for the WHL Edmonton Oil Kings. It didn't take me long to send a resume off for that, and it's been a blast sitting in the rafters of Rexall watching the expansion team battle for a playoff spot.

Hey Mike,
